Sling identification
« on: February 22, 2018, 12:40:09 AM »
The characters on this sling are very nicely stamped. Can anyone translate them? I don't see the traditional "Type 56" characters, but I'm not real good at translating..

It has buckles with short leather tabs.

I can tell the year made is 1961, but i dunno about the rest.   :))

These are presumed to be early T56 slings with those buckle tabs, and the 1961 year pretty well confirms that.

A rare late 1960's version top with strap and buckle attachment points retained by "D" rings front and back.

Did we just bust another myth?

It reads:
First line: 7.62 mm automatic rifle sling.
Second line: Sea (Hai, the Chinese character in box), ?? (can't read the character, but it looks more like a symbol or two numbers stacked after the first character), 61 (1961) year made.

the character in box in 2nd line (and the numbers/symbol right behind it) most likely indicates the manufacturer.

First line: 53 Type (Type 53) 7.62 (mm) cavalry rifle (carbine) sling.
Second line: Sea (Hai, the Chinese character in box), again ?? (looks more like a symbol or two numbers stacked after the first character), 55 (1955) year 4th Quarter made.

'Cavalry rifle/cavalry gun' is an old name for 'carbine' in China.

I can only read the end, 7.62 Type 56. The five characters preceding (to the right) of that I have no idea. Perhaps pcke2000 will swing by.
