High Standard Sport King
« on: October 17, 2019, 09:20:17 PM »
Yeah.. I'm still alive..and nothing has changed..still an addict rofl2 A week or so ago, I ran across a High Standard Sport King for a killer price, with 2 magazines, which are by no means cheap from the manufacture. And the aftermarket magazines I found....just flat suck, I just don't have any other words to describe them. It shows some faint rust spots, but cleaned up very nicely for it's age, it was made in 1951. It also does a parlor trick not many .22 semiautos do.

Now the parlor trick. it totally comes apart.

And yup... I have another High Standard hidden as well I picked up a while ago, thats how I know about the magazines.. which these two pistols, the mags are interchangeable..WIN!!!.. and like the Colt Targetsman/Huntsman/Woodsman I have(there is an eerie resemblance too), I've found these old High Standards are some seriously sweet shooters too.

I'm going to make him an offer he can't refuse......

Leave the gun, take the cannoli.

I said I was an addict........I didn't say I had a problem

Nice!  thumb1  drool2

If having a sort of duplicate with pedestrian wood grips bothers you then I’d be willing to accept it. I’ll shoot it and keep it clean so it knows it’s loved  :-*

Nice.
I've had a couple over the years, and you're right about them being sweet shooters.

Carl Gustav Swebilius the Swedish designer of these guns and High Standard was a quite impressive guy with his designs and modifications. Some of his designs and other modifications,  I'd say as a gun designer, he is somewhere up there in the ranks with Thompson, Henry, Spencer, Garand, Johnson, even possibly John Browning and Colt, yet he is way under the radar when compared to the others..

History of Carl Gustav Swebilius and High Standard... http://www.smallarmsreview.com/display.article.cfm?idarticles=1128

And I could find nothing tying why they resemble the Colt, but dang if they don't think1

GM, nice looking piece there. I see them, but don't know anything about them. Now, I want one to see if they are "sweet shooters" as you say. Independent testing needs to occur, of course! I'm going to read that article about Gustav also appreciate the info and share.
