Yugo M59. I couldn't resist !
« on: July 18, 2015, 11:14:48 AM »
Here is a Yugo M59 I picked up a few weeks ago. I believe the wood was lightly sanded during the referb process. you can see in the pics. The metal is beautiful with hardly any marks including import marks ? How did that happen ? Anyhow, price was right and its another one for the safe. Thoughts and comments welcome and thanks for looking.

Man you weren't kidding very clean all over, metal and wood both. At 49786 it's a late one, very late and I have to wonder if it might be genuinely unissued. Little used before what would seem a light refurb anyway, it's nowhere near sanded flush with the stock bolt. The bolt carrier is an interesting location for that stamp too. Wish I knew what it was.

Nice score there DC  thumb1

I've never been up close and personal with an M59 but that sure looks nice  8)  The bluing is well preserved with honest wear in the usual places.  The blurring of the stock number is the only obvious evidence of sanding to me, in the photos you've shown.  The edges by the side rails look sharp.  Are the grasping groove edges still sharp? I can't really see them well in the pics.

I wouldn't have passed on that one either  thumb1

Nice one  thumb1 Correct Direction :)

I would almost lean towards and wonder if it's not a possible refurb with a replacement stock, why.... the crossbolt screw head is flat, see the 4th photo down.... something I've noticed on other Yugos that were of the uber drool2 nice variety, like Cherry's and Samco's.  The used and abused Yugoslavians seem to have the normal standard rounded head crossbolt. I don't know if it's a later design change during refurb, or it's maybe it's a post 1.TRZ refurb design.

Here is a round headed crossbolt in my used and abused, 1.TRZ mis and match refurb M59. The "C"series M59 I have has the same round headed crossbolt as well, bottom photo.

I'm going to make him an offer he can't refuse......

Leave the gun, take the cannoli.

Good catch GM  thumb1. My Cherry's M59/66 has the flat cross bolt as well.

I agree, good catch. Not the first time stock replacement didn't occur to me  :)) The one M59 I have has a flat one, it's been sanded to hell and gone too. The sides are thin, nearly flush with the handguard and the slot is sanded clean out of the small reinforcing screw. Blued sight leaf and no 1.TRZ it's in the 42 range.

Thanks for all the great info and comments. I cant believe I looked over the import mark which on this gun was under the bayo blade & cleaning rod on the barrel with very small markings. I agree that this Yugo is a late model post trz referb version. nontheless, pretty interesting gadget that is now connected in the right direction  rofl... Here is a pic of the import markings that someone had to tell me where to look... oh boy !
