Herters G1 "Perfect Style" .22 rifle
« on: December 19, 2015, 11:27:10 AM »
I think is the same action as Stevens 87-series, minus the gills. The bolt holds open with the trigger, and it's noisy like a small stamping machine. I think Herters had them made in Germany in a lot of different calibers and sold them mainly in Canada and the North. It shoots well enough, jamming occasionally on a spent shell.

It has an attractive stock and will make a decent functional wallhanger to use around the camp if I needed it. Which translates to "20 minutes after I put my bid on this rifle I spotted another I wanted much worse but as I couldn't bear the cost of winning both, I was frozen and nobody came along to unfreeze me."

Sure looks like an 87a...  Never heard of it.  Great wood batman!

The wood is certainly "perfect"  :)  8)  Nice score!  thumb1

What's the capacity of that tube magazine? Looks like around 20 rounds.

I think it's 20 rounds of shorts, 17-ish of long and 15 lr, I've been popping 14 in it. The bolt handle needed some knurling on it or something, it's really hard to pull out on to get out of bolt stop position.

The "other" rifle was a Reising Mod. 65 with an extra stock, a sling and 6 (SIX !!) mags, went for a bargain at 325$. Of course, I don't know what I might have had to spend vs. the guy that won it. It's just the idea that the one time I wish somebody would come along and burn me, thereby setting me free, they are a no-show lol. It's cool, I've made buddies with the one I got.  thumb1

Ooh, yeah, that Reising package would have been hard to let go...but I can't stop staring at the stock on your Herter's, so I think you did okay  :)
