a few oddities from the web
« on: June 18, 2017, 09:07:49 AM »
A few things i saw wandering aution sites yesterday
:o
Is this magazine a real thing or a bubba thing?  It looks like a star stamped on the side.

I believe on the Antiques Roadshow they call this 'patina'.
Still made $200

Before books on tape, there was books on receivers.
I feel as though there was probably a better way.

And finally, best sks scope mount evar. :)

The magazine is real, it is an aftermarket mag made by the Chinese for the then exploding SKS market in the US....they are known to feed somewhat unreliably, at least without modification....yet, they fetch a premium price now. $75-$100 prices are not unusual.  The variants without the star tend to get more due to being less common. While I think they are fugly on a wood stocked SKS, I think they are acceptable on a black gun...at least in appearance. I can't bring myself to spend that much only to find out I indeed hate them.

I would pay $200 for that patina laden SKS...either to keep as is, if it was original, or make it shine again if it is a parts gun...if they got that bolt open, chances are the corrosion is only there to make it look mean.

That scout mounted scope looks like it needs a regular scope to view, but I have a LER Norinco scope that probably would work great that far away. If only it would hold still way out there... :)
I love the square nuts, it reminds me of having an Erector Set as a kid...

I'll just point out that the general utility of that wiggly gas tube mounted long, long, eye relief scope would not be compromised in the least by pointing it in the other direction  ;)  banghead1 rofl

And I was under the impression the 20 round star mags worked good... primarily because they operate in the exact same manor as the original. Its exactly like a factory 10 in terms of the follower etc.

They are hit or miss, because they have much thinner mag lips which tend to open up over time. But if you have one with good mag lip spacing, they are just as reliable as the stock mag.

In my experience, the 20rnd hinged mags tend  to have weak springs.

That scope is not on backwards if it is like my Norinco LER.

Which, of course is attached to an SKS at my folks house, or I would attach a pic....
