I ran across this video on another site and thought it was interesting. The Russians have moved into the 21st century with their NC mills (sure looks a hell of a lot like a Haas VF-3 to me, they even copied the dang door sliders!) inclusion checks via magnetic resonance, and pretty nice investment casting processes.
I found the part around 4:30 quite interesting. They rebarrel old SKS receivers to .366 caliber and instead of messing with index marks, they just tighten and mill the flats (and I assume the extractor groove) after the fact. They have definitely progressed in the past 60 years.
