Its a DB series....there is little known about them that is based in fact...but we sure do speculate about them. :P

The Chinese character is likely either the city where it was made, or perhaps the city it was issued to.

There is a section in the guide on DBs and DPs that has the city code characters translated....in the Arsenal Stamps section.
Yours appears to be from Lushun City. (pardon me if I am wrong, but it is upside down and early in the AM)

The stock, bipod, magazine and muzzle brake are all aftermarket addons.

Dating these is virtually impossible based on the serial, usually...but for the most part the ones with indicators towards the date point to 70-71ish.

Hi Jgross.
Welcome from Arizona.

You are definitely in the right place to learn the truth about the SKS.

It's a Type 56 DB likely made at Lüshun City (present day Dalian, formerly Port Arthur) based on the Hanzi character after the DB. It was made in the early to mid 70's but the DB/DP series Type 56s are some of the few for which a precise year of production code has not been determined.

A very long and ongoing discussion on the DB/DP guns can be found on the thread below:

Nice!

I agree with Justin, Lushun City mark.  S/N is higher than the up to 44k 48k block I've seen with 5 digits.  Other S/N's are definitely scrubbed (see attached photos)...your's may be too but it's impossible to tell with it in the stock.  The feature set would determine whether this is a newer build or a scrub of an older gun.  Would need to see photos of the right side bolt carrier, gas tube, front sight block, barrel lug, etc. to go further than that.
