A real beauty for certain!  Pretty high S/N too...in fact the highest I have recorded for the B block  :o

This one first surfaced in 2015:

Looks like she was in really good shape then as well.  thumb1

Very cool, Running Man! I was unaware that this one had surfaced before, and it's a definite privilege to be able to share it here now.

You'd be surprised how many firearms recycle through the market over the course of 5-8 years or so.

It's nice having the old photos since when a suspect gun comes up that a member posts up wanting other members to scrutinize, sometime the old photos can tell us what was done to hump the gun.  I can think of several Russian SKSs that have had work to them done that we might never have known but for old photos.  thumb1

I reckon that's true enough. I followed 50456 for a LONG time and never thought I'd have the opportunity to acquire it, but persistence (and continual reference and queries about previous posts, photos, and info from other venues) finally brought it home. And thanks for the kind remarks.

So this one is a bookend for the upper range of the B series? Is there any additional info at this time from primary sources regarding the startup of serial production of the M59? And as far as you know, is SKSDude's 15001 the low end?

Nothing I've seen has been in-between the long barreled M59s , they go to 100 or so... and the B series that seems to picked up around 15k serial...  Ive often wondered is there an.... I guess an A series..  so from ~100 to ~15000 is a void thus far.  Especially since the long barrel rifles are usually deemed "prototype".  Maybe.. just maybe they exist... But who really knows, short of the people in the factories back in the day.

Same thoughts and questions. If there were about 100 long barrels and roughly 100 regular-length barreled rifles in the pre-production trial series (if I remember correctly from B. Bogdanovic), were the 100 regular-length rifles the "A" rifles? Or were the trial rifles of both lengths considered by the JNA/Yugoslavian government as the "A" rifles? Would the B series starting at about B-15000 just be a means to obscure true production numbers from "evil" capitalist nations?

Condition being equal, wonderin' how does the value of the M59 line up compared to a 59/66, Tula, M-21, PS or...? 🤔

Ah, the old cliche' comes to mind: "It's worth what someone will pay for it!" I used to really not like that statement from a supervisor of mine from the distant past. But to work towards an answer to your question by asking questions, how many B prefix rifles are out there? Has the site only come across 5 or 10 of these (documented, undeniable specimens)? Is this rifle truly the upper end of production, with B-15001 the first? Does anyone know of a former Zastava employee who might be willing to shed light on SKS manufacture in the former Yugoslavia?

Great find! M59s are uncommon and the B block is definitely scarce!

Ah, the mysterious missing A block. Mysteries are part of the fun with these old milsurps, and the hope that you might be the one to uncover some good information.

Can’t believe it’s already been 8 years since I found mine.

One other question is why did they transition from the darker fine grain stocks to the different cut course lighter grain stocks.
