Looking for DDR info
« on: September 21, 2014, 05:34:03 PM »
Are these real or just a myth ?
I have a couple of these and am having trouble tracking down their origin (issued to), purpose, and quantities that were produced.

What make you think that they were used by the ddr?

Rumor has it:
A number 1 stamped in triangle on the receiver, horizontal serial number on stock and handguard, tiger stripes on stock. I only have a couple Russians with these characteristics on them. Again I am looking for some facts to the DDR myth, so far it's just rumors in the wind.

Correct...

There has NEVER been any true links or solid evidence to suggest they were connected to the ddr in any way shape or form. This myth was created simply by observing a stamp in which nothing was known about, and the fact (a few) East German sks rifles have had a horizontal serial... only on the butt stock and NOT on the handguard I may add.

Unfortunately for the ddr myth, there ARE in fact several comblock nations who utilized horizontal serials and Russia in particular was well known to use horizontals including on the handguard. In addition, below you will see a recent list of known refurb locations within Russia. This list came straight from the horses mouth in Russia, and the /1\ is 100% a refurb mark. These ex-ex-dee dee aren't rifles are not the only russians to have very attractive tiger strip patterns within the stocks either.

Would, "for repair of artillery weapons", include the handheld type firearm ?

Hand it to you, going thru 480 pages of that!

From , Shotgun News, Volume 68, Issue 28, Oct 1, 2014. An article by Peter G. Kokalis, Page 16.

"In Russia, small arms development to this day has been traditionally the domain of the artillery ministry."
