Mossberg Patrol rifle
« on: October 24, 2024, 07:17:02 PM »
Picked this up a few years ago. At the time it was hard to find rifles locally like this (in this caliber with  detachable box and under 20") so I got one online and had it transferred. Added the scope, sling and pod. 7.62x51 and it takes SR-25/M110 magpul mags. Plan on getting an adjustable stock for it because I am not very fond of the cheek pouch. It was a stop gap until I get a better stock. Perfect "truck" style rifle. Any recommendations on a decent adjustable stock?

I built something similar out of a '67 Ishapore 2A1 salvage, and bits out of my parts stash, ATI syth, big Chinese glass, cheap bipod and Cabela's cheek riser. I'm running a 5 round mag but I have 10s & 12s. If you shoot slow, it groups FMJ okay at 300 yards. I think I've scrounged up enough MK III furniture to resto, but it doesn't bother me that much set up the way it is. PAX

Yeah the scope is not an expensive scope but its nice. I got the high rings because of the back-up sights but they are still a bit obscured. I am not fond of the high rings but if I went too much lower the scope would be hitting the rear sights.  I was thinking about getting an MDT stock for it.   https://mdttac.com/oryx-chassis-system/

No irons on this rifle, I've got store bought "truck" guns, RAR in X39 and a H&R bull barrel .22-250 single shot and live in ag dirt, but it's gotten pretty congested over the years. I just like to tinker and see what's possible, PAX

Me too. I guess I got the tinker bug from my gramma. She used to build all sorts of working gadgets, was a master seamstress as well. She even came up with those replacement spools on weed whackers by using a home made spindle and some fishing tackle on the end of one before you could even buy an aftermarket spool in a store. LOL My dad also was a rock hound and made rings and necklaces with my gramma, made his own beer and cider, and enjoyed building percussion rifle kits. My mother built model aircraft (memories of mongram and revell planes hanging all over the house)for hobby shops and would get free models for my older brothers in the process.  I guess its in the blood. Its certainly a great stress reliever when you tinker with guns or some other hobby. ;)

Thats cool. My mothers hobby rubbed off on me. I have a collection too but nowhere near 200 pieces. I belong to a women's modeling group on youtube and scalemates. We are rare in that hobby but do exist.

Totally off-topic but recently built/painted the Iron maiden spitfire and a few others,

Nice work. The Iron Maiden front man just passed away I'm sure you know. I'm going to put one of my Paratroopers in Albanian furniture and call it a T56 tanker. PAX

Yes,

Not much of a Paul Di'Anno sound fan. That was their 70's punk sounding pub days. Dickinson is my guy but it is sad that Paul passed and he certainly made his own impact on their sound in the early days and his career afterward.  :(
Up The Irons! :P

My youngest boy was in a Death Metal band. He was in his English class writing some Death when the teacher came up behind him an snatched up his song book. He said: "You better give me that back or I'll kill ya" which was a saying he always used. It was the day after Columbine. They took him away him hand cuffs, arraigned the next day on my wife's birthday  ::) . Funny chit now, PAX

Did you see they're going to light off the ME262A-1 up at Everett? I went there a few years ago and was the first in line. A tour bus pulled up with WWII vets being pushed around by Nam & Korean vets. The docents thought I was part of that crew and I got some leeway going over the ropes to get some killer photos. I spent 10 hours there, it's awesome. That year I took an extra week to get back to Kali from my summer gig in Idaho, hit up Erikson, Boeing, Legacy, Warhawk and Bird. PAX

I have seen a flying 262 on youtube but its a remake. The one in Everett is too, I think.  It looks so close to an original and its awesome. I had no idea we had one in the state. Several years ago I used to go to the Boeing museum and my favorite plane there was the FW-190D. In my opinion the best piston plane of the war.  ;)P-51 be damned.:P

Speaking of that. A old friend of mine that passed away years ago and was a very big C&R collector. His dad was Joseph Peterburs . He actually shot down a 262 and after the war became best friends with the pilot, Walter Schuck . I googled and apparently a lot of people are building flyable 262 reproductions now. thats pretty cool!

Erickson in Madras has a FW190D. They specialized in Naval WWII air. The main reason I went to Everett was they have the only airworthy Mosquito in North America. I didn't know they closed, changed hands and reopened. The ME262 is there. If you haven't been you need to go. They have a full-scale diorama of a Brit Centurion breaking through a French villa's wall, right next to the only Stuka being restored. PAX

Did not know we had a Mosquito or Stuka here either. I love the Beaufighter more but the Mosquito is a favorite too. I must take some time out to visit that place. Thanks for this info.
