Title: Marlin 57m
Post by: Phosphorus32 on June 26, 2023, 10:30:01 PM
Picked up this ca. 1959-67 (NSN) Marlin Model 57m Levermatic in .22WMR with a Weaver Model 330 scope last week at a local gun shop. These aren’t very common and the levermatic cammed action is cool since it gives a very short throw. Definitely easier to keep this on the cheek and throw the lever to rapid fire a full 15 round tube magazine if you had the desire or need. 24” barrel, 15 round magazine, punchier .22WMR. Not a bad little package.

The scope actually clinched the deal for me. The Weaver 330 is a commercial rim fire scope, but it’s the same model found on nearly all of the Model 03-A4 “sniper rifles. For the military version they had slightly different knobs and added a bent spring steel piece that acted as a click adjustment and retention mechanism.

Thanks! I heard about those when I was looking for info on this one. I’d love to have the .30 Carbine model.

That is a nice looking rifle.  I'm sure it's fun too shoot!  thumb1

Didn't know they made them - don't recall ever seeing one before.  I love the old stuff, since it always has the look of quality.

What are the production numbers?

About 67K of the 57M in .22WMR were made and only 35K of the .22lr version. Compare to the Winchester 9422, where annual production was greater than total 57M production.
