Title: CZ 527 M American
Post by: John Galt on May 02, 2015, 10:22:19 AM
I got this before the supply dried up.  I waited 16 months for this one.  My buddy ordered one after seeing mine, his wait continues and is going on 2 yrs.  I am taking it out this weekend to knock the dust out of it.  The set trigger is scary light and the rifle is really accurate from what I can remember (last time I had it out…2 yrs ago).   CZ's web page says it is made to shoot steel case ammo and wolf was working fine.  The scope is on it so I can see what it does at 100 yds without walking down to the target :P

Ammo and stripper is in the pic just for scale.

Thanks Worm!  I was hoping for the figured walnut that they were known for…but the long delay in shipment cured that desire!  Really nice rifle!

Beautiful rifle!  I know nothing about theses.  Does it fire 7.62x39mm?  The mag looks so square that I wouldn't guess chambering for a bottleneck cartridge by looking at it.

Phosphorus32,

It does fire 7.62x39mm.  The CZ website says it is made for steel case rounds but I don't know what that means as far as its construction.  I was looking for a bolt action rifle that fired 7.62x39mm, mostly because I have a lot of it, and also because a rifle like L-C has (bench rest sks) is outside of my abilities!  The trigger is great and in addition to its smooth operation, has a "set" trigger.  You just push the trigger forward until it clicks, now it is a 2lb. trigger!  When I was researching, I learned that the CZ was the only rifle with a bore of .311.  Two other manufactures were making 7.62x39mm bolt rifles at the time, but apparently they had .308 barrels.  I did not verify these measurements, and that was 2 years ago.  I don't know if this is still the case today.

Thanks for looking!

I have a feeling when they say it is meant for steel case rounds that they are refering to its firing pin "penetration" or force applied.

But i could be wrong

Worm,

That very well could be the case!  If I remember correctly, CZ says "steel case, military surplus ammo".

I will post a range report tomorrow, unless rain keeps me home.

Sounds good, Please do so!

Just the fact that they state its meant for steel makes me want it more. That was one of the problems with the Mini 30's - light strikes on steel

If it shoots anywhere as nice as my Cz 572 Varmint Kevlar,  oh, you'll be in for a treat. thumb1

Brought silver bear, tula, and wolf to the range.  Loaded up some wolf and fired at 50 yds…ok group.  Loaded up some more wolf and fired at 100 yds…not good group.  Tried some silver bear…worse.

I wasn't sure if the rifle didn't like one brand or the other, didn't like the warm barrel, or if it just wasn't my day.  Shot buddy's .50 bmg and shattered the scope…then I was sure it wasn't my day!

Decided to go home and clean rifles.  I found a loose scope on the CZ.  I will post a real range report when I go out again!  This time I will bring some more tools!

Worm,

I don't get down that far too often!  My sister lives in Wauwatosa, but I usually don't bring rifles!

I'm about 4 hrs north.

Worm,

I do have private land but I don't have a "range" setup.  Actually, I was at the range for 4 hrs and other than my buddy and me, there was no one else even seen!  Kinda like a private range.  I will bring rifles on the first trip that I take when I figure I would have time to use them and extend to you the offer to bring some rifles up this way!

Here is the pic of the first target that was only ok.  Didn't know it then, but the scope was loose and moving.  I will be out this week if the rain holds off.  I will post pics after.

That thing is sexy as hell. I've always wanted one. I never could justify spending that much on a bolt action 7.62x39.

I forgot I posted pics of the 527 and feel bad about the abrupt end to my range report.  I will bring it to the range this week and post some pics.  It shoots very nice!

Many years ago, Navy Arms imported a Norinco 7.62x39 bolt action that looks "almost" identical to the Cz, as I understand it was only a couple of hundred rifles.

I stumbled across one a show a few weeks ago, thought it was the Cz at first, but the stock didn't look quite right, light colored wood and no real nice Cz finish, I saw it was marked Norinco on the barrel. Being broke, the Norinco carrying a Cz price tag and boss man burning up my phone, I left it be, now after researching it, dash2 headbang2  I shoulda....

GM, that is what gunshots are for!  The shoulda-coulda-woulda that happens after the show!  Sounds like a very interesting gun.  Was the stock light chu wood or light walnut?

Yeah I know.. don't rub salt in the cut anymore...please  chuckles1 chuckles1

Anyways, the wood was close to what my Norinco JW-15 has, I've heard some refer to it as pallet wood with a poly finish. Kind of a bla, very straight grain, bland wood. This is one of my other Norincos, a JW-15, it's basiclly a carbon copy of another Cz, the CZ 452, so much of a copy, you can drop in in a Cz stock with minimal fitting, and use Cz mags as a replacement for the ungodly expensive hard to find Norinco made mags.

The Norinco mag is on the left, Cz mag is in the right. You can get about 3 Cz mags for the cost of the Norinco.  :o

I made it to the range this past weekend.  I brought 1 box of black box wolf and some golden tiger.  The CZ likes the wolf way better.  I was shooting at 100 yards and the orange circle is 2".  Next time I will bring more black box wolf and try to tighten up this group.  I would like to see 1" groups....I just need to take my time!

Just curious John, thanks. I'm leaving in a few minutes to go to the range and try some of my newly acquired Red Army Standard. I'm anxious  dance2 to see how it does.
