This was asked for a while ago, but I've been busy with various projects and couldn't finish it until now. Most regular members of SKS-Files.com are going to find this guide extremely basic and possibly not very useful, however new members or guests to the site that don't have much SKS experience should find it to be a good resource to start learning with. It was made to be easily printed and taken with you to the gunshow for a very handy quick reference guide that will help differentiate between the various common nationalities.
The guide is only three pages, so it is obviously not exhaustive. If you see any information that is wrong or anything you feel should be added to this quick guide, please let me know!

Yeah...what they all said. clap1 Thanks running-man!
-
All of the above clap1 clap1 thumb1. Thank you RM. God Bless!!

Very well done! Great layout, well organized and very informative. I'd say this is valuable for those new to the SKS all the way to at least the intermediate level collector. Having all of this information in one quickly accessible guide is really useful. Thanks! thumb1 thumb1

Awesome work RM thumb1
I'll not be surprised at all, to see people thumbing through these at the next show i go to. This will be very helpful for many.
Tell the wife, the guys at SKS-Files say, you've earned yourself a SKS purchase. 8)

haha this is perfect. I use to keep a folded piece of notebook paper with me at gun shows with traits from each so I knew. Thing's still in my wallet lol
-
RM, that is super nice. thanks.

Looks great! I wish I had something like this years ago when the prices were not so crazy. This should be helpful to a wide variety of buyers. I will be printing it out to hang in my shop for sure!

Well done! Thank you RM!

As above, outstanding RM. thumb1 For Yugo's, I offer for your consideration to add in your spare time :)) the 3 digit long barrels, the 10xxx A suffixed I/O's, and the OOxxxx no prefix or suffix Mitchell's, although I do understand that these groups are uber-niche and may not belong in a quick guide. Maybe a better fit for a more broadbase Yugo specific version ?
Anyway, super job and thanks for your work. thumb1
I've been working for a good while to tighten the serial range and approx. production # of Mitchell's. So far I have production of 200 but I need to reliably source that, and as for serial range, in all the internet I've accessed so far you can find exactly 2 Mitchell Yugo's. One was being offered for sale about 4 yrs. ago and the old ad can still be seen w/pics. The other is a serial # in Withergyld's db. Both are 0019xx. Owing to my inability to source any actual rifles except one ;), I've had to resort to building a db on the other models in the import batch (much more availability with those) to try to fix their serial ranges and have the Mitchell Yugo SKS serial range established by elimination.

RM will be back the day after Easter... but as you mentioned, those are uber nitch variations tbat likely won't fit into the quick guide putpose.
Your starting to get these yugos down pretty good... should start working on some of the sticky/threads missing on this list. Yugoslavian M59 & M59/66 SKS FAQ, HOWTOs, & Guides (http://sks-files.com/index.php?topic=134.0)
:)

Thanks for that LC, once in a while something I have some minimal talent for grabs hold of me and I hammer the heck out of it for a while. I would be happy to help in places where I have some confidence in what I'm producing..the line items aren't turned on as links, should I post as replies and RM could edit/move as needed ?
-
Just pick one thats not linked as those are the ones needed. Post new in Yugo section.. Im no yugo expert either, but if you want a proof read, send it to someone for a glance over.

Xclnt!

thumb1 I like it :) May print this one for later use :)
-
Hold on... you didn't make it a cell phone app? I sold my printer to buy an SKS!
Seriously, very nice and I'm grateful you took the time to think of the less-knowledgable. Thanks!

Just saw this and read it though, "awesome information"! Thank you for the hard work!!! thumb1

hi ,im new here not new to the rifle and thankyou for allowing me aboard..i noticed the part of the guide with the letters as a prefix or other..i have an sks with a K and only three digits starting with a zero..i was curios ,running man ,if you had encountered this before..barrel is short lug screwed bayonet and barrel is micro grooved ,,as sloppy or hurried lathe work,,again thanks for letting me join
-
Hi Arego. Sounds like a late Chinese gun with that short lug and poor finish work on the barrel. Quite common in the rectangular arsenals actually. The S/N doesn't sound typical for that gun though as letter guns with the format K### would be long lugged and of quite good quality. This sound like it would be a good candidate for some photos. You can post up a new thread here, or if you're not comfortable sharing it here you can always email me at: running-man @ SKS-Files.com and I can discuss with you there. thumb1 Glad to have you aboard!
