SKS Sunday
« on: September 18, 2022, 11:07:49 PM »
Didn't know where to post this so.....Around 11 this morning I checked my local gun site classifieds and there is a SKS D in the box, three mags and everything else for $800. PM'd and a couple of hours later, sorry already sold. Oh well. I really like shooters. No big deal. Went to lunch with the wife, mom etc and looked in on the classified again and see what I think is a Chinese SKS in a plastic stock. Asked for pics, made the deal and now I stumped. I have a NOS jungle stock, blade cut and this was my self enabling reason to buy this rifle. The rifle is in really nice shape so I need a little help to figure out what I have. No arsenal mark has me stumped.

One of the 1990 production parts guns or refurbished guns. Mix of a pressed and pinned barrel, early milled trigger group, heavily scrubbed receiver.

Thanks Phos. So would the stock have been numbered and if not what would be correct, bottom swivel, side swivel and so on. Just want to get it back close to how it should be.

No. Standard Choate Tool stock. Now I have two of them I don’t need.

Just a stock that fits a pinned barrel. It’s a mixed parts gun so any swivel configuration will do. It likely would have had a numbered/renumbered matching stock, but nothing you can do about that now.

Probably going to be hard to find an unnumbered stock but I have a NOS jungle stock with the blade bayo cut and the action dropped in really nice. I think I'm going to try and find a spike cut jungle stock for this mutt. Seems right for this thing.

Nice pickup Lowell!  I have a photo of this carbines little sister.  Side swivel stock with last five digits of the S/N on it.  Same import stamp.  Heck at a difference in S/N of 43 carbines, they may have even sat side by side on a rack a some point in time!

Found a jungle stock, spike bayo today so when it get's here I can get this thing presentable again. Oh yeah, have a sling with springs inbound also like others here have done.

No, but it does look surprising similar to the sreisel GCG (gray carpet guy's) background.

Gray is the background of choice for every good SKS portrait studio.🤣🤣
My Avatar is a pic of the real "Ghost" SKS in honor of xxxsks(joe). It is a pic of a fully decked out SKS in Capco hunter's kit. This was mine, the only other pic I had ever seen of one was Joe's.

I’ve made up my mind that The next time I ever sell anything on GB it will have a grey blanket background and be filled with words like “rare” “one of a kind” and of course “Holy Grail”  rofl

Looks sharp Lowell!  I've been on the fence with a red phenolic stock for a parts gun I have.  Might have to start looking for a good deal in earnest now....

Very nice  thumb1

To be fair to Gray Blanket he has a lot of uncommon stuff. But he has a lot of questionable stuff too...

Here's a pic of my "commi commercail collection". The scrubbed jungle stock, my two Para Parkas and an SKS-S.
