Misc M1 Carbine stuff
« on: February 15, 2019, 06:03:20 PM »
I dug up some of the pictures.. of M1 Carbines and other Carbine related junk I have kicking around...  so if you all want a thread to post miscellaneous M1 Carbine stuff in, here it is.. :) thumb1

Still missing some pictures of one more, the Arlington Ordnance import marked one, I can't find'em.. I think those were lost during the photophuckit mess.... headbang2

The GI Underwood.. it all came as a package deal.

Same Underwood with close kin folk.. an Underwood Type 6 typewriter

BlueSky imported Inland, GI Underwood,(Iver Johnson) Irma made W. German .22lr trainer, an early, mostly built with GI parts Universal commercial, I keep thinking... Auto Ordnance senil1 I got Thompson on the brain. chuckles1
Yes.. I put a bayonet lug on the .22lr, cause I could.. a bayonet will loosely fit it.. actually, there is only a slight difference in barrel diameter between the 2 calibers, and I have the rear sight still for the Universal.  :)

GI IBM.. it served in a local VFW for a number of years, it was refinished by someone there. Internally it's in great shape with an 11-43 IBM barrel and some markings still on the stock. I need to find the matching typewriter now..  chuckles1

And what fun is it having a .30 carbine...if you don't have a pistol. :o
An AMT Automag III in .30 Carbine. Not much on recoil...but it has one loud mouth and a nice fireball when you touch it off.  rofl2

The handle scales are a giveaway.

Few others I found photos for that I happened to take pictures of :)

Some random pointy thing I have  chuckles1

This bayonet is not very common to see, and it's not American.

That’s really cool. Yes it was rebuilt later, perhaps in Korea, so does not have the original leather grip. However, the blade shows that it’s a very early M4 bayonet. The M4 was merely an adaptation of the M3 fighting knife to make a bayonet for the M1 carbine, basically by replacing the guard and adding a catch system..

Hey GM,  I just ran across this post and saw your pic of this bayonet. The blade looks almost identical to my early Gerber Mark II Fighting Knife, (w/o serrations), but you mention that the bayonet isn't US made. What bayonet is it?

That bayonet was made for the Danish Madsen Model 47

The mags as far as I know are USGI issue... I'll have to dig them out, or I might have a photo some where of the stamps..

From what I can see in the photos, all of the 30 round mags look GI due to the shape of the flanges at the bottom, though it is hazy on magnification.  That's on mags 1, 2, & 4 (looking from the left). #3 is an early "hardback", which, to my knowledge, has not been duplicated, so would definitely make it WWII GI.  They bring a premium, and in my opinion,  work better.  Cheers, Bruce.

Check and see if you have an M2 mag catch on the rifle.
They have an extra lug to support the extra weight in the mag. Keeps the mags in a better position to feed.
Not at all a requirement, but it can help, plus a lot of rifles already have them from rebuilds.

On the 30 rounders, the "J" is a Jahn (Korea or Vietnam),  the two with no marks could be commercial (rounded edges, straight bend cut since i can see these with the better resolution pix) and the SEY Hardback is WWII.  I have some "U" marked mags for her if you need.  Cheers, Bruce.

The cutouts are a dead giveaway.
Also, look at the lugs for the mag catch to grab.

All that aside, if they work, they work. I've been bit a couple of times by fakes that didn't work. That spurs research.

Once you get to looking at holes that aren't de-burred and cuts/bends that aren't straight, you know right away when people are trying to cheat you.
I did find a couple of the Japanese 30 rounders is a box at a local gun store a few years back. the guy that owns the store is a WWII collector, and he didn't want aftermarket mags for himself. He let me have them for 10 bucks each. They work very well.
