I scratched my bubba itch...
« on: May 09, 2016, 07:51:45 PM »
Here is my bubba project.  I like the peep sight and want a scope.  This set up allows me to use irons as well as the scope.  I'm working on a receiver cover mount method that I like as I can't leave stuff alone... ???  I like the "Marcus Method" but feel the bubba in me needing to tinker :-[

If I was ever tempted to put one of my rough Chinese T56s in an aftermarket stock, it'd be a MC laminate like that one. Beautiful  thumb1

I fofgot to mention in this post that this is a mixmaster.  The blueing was brown, plastic stock, 30 rd mag, bubba special jewel job on the carrier (belt sander?)  I have un-bubba'd a 1951 Russian and a 1958 Romanian.  This one needed to be different.

Thanks Danny, The stock fits really tight and I love how it feels.

Nightfall, Thank you and the 50 shades name is too funny!

P32, you are correct.  Timber Smith indeed.

John, if you can find a better way to lock a scope to the SKS platform, I'd love to hear about it. I like mine because it won't move on me. BUT, I also like KISS. I'd rather drill a receiver cover than the receiver.

Where can I get one of those stocks and what's the damage for one?

I'm a Tapco distributor. Is that the Monte Carlo 'black laminate' stock? If so, I may be able to get it. Retail is 154.99. I'll do ya better than that, IF I can get one.

I have taken my Bubba for a 600 round test drive.  I have to say that I am very satisfied with my scope mount solution.  My inner Bubba engineer wanted something "mechanical" to keep everything zeroed in and stationary.  My John Galt engineer was inspired by the K.I.S.S. theory that Marcus subscribes to.  This is what I did:

To remove side to side slop and play of the receiver cover, I splayed the "front finger" of the receiver cover out to provide a tight fit laterally.  There is no side to side movement at all.   Next goal was to keep the cover tight and pushed forward.  My K.I.S.S. solution was to remove the cover and recoil spring and position the takedown lever in the operating position and with a hammer and nail set, bend the pin slightly forward.  This pin now acts as a cam when the cover is inlace.  As the takedown lever is being pushed down to operating position, the bent pin contacts the front of the receiver cover hole and forces it forward.  The "ramps" on the two fingers of the cover wedge it down tight and the splayed finger remove all side to side movement.

I have removed the cover completely 11 times in this 600 rnd test.  9 of the times was after each shot of a ten rnd test.  I have been very happy with this solution.  Photo bucket is being a PITA so here is a 10 shot target from shots 491 to 500

Confused as to what exactly you did at the front of the cover.... Any pics?

L-C, I will post some pics when I get home.  Basically I spread the pointy (very technical description) parts of the cover to produce a tight fit.

Here are the pics L-C.  This very simple fix has proven good so far.

Simple, but if it works that's great John.
