going to build a new bench this spring
« on: January 01, 2021, 11:14:25 PM »
i think its time to build a new shooting bench , i went out to cover it up today and just decided its time , i built it out of scrap wood from the job sites so it didnt hold up more than a few years  , this time im going to spring for pressure treated ,route the edges , make it for righty lefty

i have a hillbilly range , we just take card board box's with a orange spray bomb dots , i have 32 acres and have a small timbered mountain about 200 feet high i use for a back drop ,and shoot from a small hill so trajectory is down

never cared for ranges , always got a Gym vibe from them , flex'n ,lol , theres that and i dont have to worry about getting shot by bubba

You're a lucky man, Hoop.

Yor "hillbilly" range is likely better than most non-hillbilly ranges. And you're definitely right about bubba.

Sounds like a good plan. I’d love to have enough land to do that.

I consider myself blessed to have an outdoor 100m target range with gongs our to 400m just 15’ from my house. $70 per year for my wife and me and counts towards my CMP eligibility. I’ve never even shot at an indoor range, it hasn’t appealed to me enough to give it a try  :))

There’s also some BLM land not far away when I want a tougher terrain experience with no people.

I need to buy some acreage so I can build a bench, lol.

:)) Me too! The longest range we have around here is 300 m and it takes me about half an hour to get there. Having your own private range I can only dream about.

I envy all these guys who can just drive to the desert and shoot away. We just don't have the land here to do this.

i sorta evolved over the years , very slowly i might add , i use to use the back of a chair i kept on my hill for a rest with a sandbag , and then maybe 5 years ago i slapped together a bench from scrap wood ,didnt put any thought into a plan , this time im going to have comfort in mind , and decent materials , also going to build a rack for weapons not in use and i have a spool i nabbed from the job that the lineman left that had heavy electrical cable on it im going to make into a table in case we get a jam and need a place to work on

going to bring hillbilly into the 21st century

Sometimes a basic or slightly modified picnic table can work pretty well. Can be used in multi positions for lefty or righty.

And if/when you run out of ammo you can have a picnic lunch, LOL.
