Paratroopers For Your Viewing Pleasure
« on: September 24, 2024, 01:25:15 AM »
Greetings SKS Lovers,

A photo shoot on the "other" site inspired me to get out my Paratroopers and do a quickie layout of factory Bubbas and close clones, which happen to be some of my most cherished SKS rifles. There are some kinda unique units, such as importer-built blade rifles but on pinned chassis (when you could have order them made that way), the blonde blade has a sling with different style keepers and a very scarce KSI Hunter in wood, without the nowhere rail and inletting for it in the stock. That rifle also has importer installed NSTAR brake and CAPCO recoil pad option with the bayo slot filled in. All in all, a very clean Para mod. The Navy Arms Cowboys Companion came to me in 2 different parts buys months apart, from the same seller. It too has a different style CAPCO recoil pad option, slip-on screwed-on. I took the original Red Star scope off to save it for posterity. The 2 clones are KSI Hunters but had the nowhere rails, and their matching numbered stocks inletted for the rails. Luckily both rails were attached with screws and easily removed. I had a KSI branded OD green Butler Creek, so I cloned a faux Parka Para. The other KSI Hunter went in a black Ramline (not KSI branded) to clone a Stealth Para. Neither of the clones are parked and I'm not spending the ducat$ to do it. The Stealth clones are actually cleaner than the factory jobs because of the rod guides being completely removed. One Para I put a French tickler on because it matched the wood. Another Para I tried to put in a jungle stock (un-numbered wood) but couldn't get an acceptable fit or HG match. I had another nice spiker but I gave it to my buddy for a tranny installed in my ZR2. Anyway, these are them, enjoy PAX.

I built a couple home-grown Paratrooper units using P50s and cut a couple to 18.5" and used just the front site globes.

That’s quite a large group of Paras. I might suspect that you’re fond of that configuration  ;)

They are my favorite shooter SKS but unless one falls in my lap for dirt, I think I'm done, until Kali does away with the mag ban, then I'll be after a D and/or an M. I've been focusing on the Euro rifles. I picked up these 2 '51 Tulas since the first of the year and I got a line on a matching Romy with questions I posted here earlier. I caught the sellers within minutes of posting a continued price reduction, getting both Tulas and a KSI Hunter (CO) rifles for less than the refurb should have gone for on it's own  8). PAX
As issued out of OR

Light refurb out of TX with only the stock forced. Hammer and bolt face look new

Thanks DC,
I've thinned out the heard of SKS considerably, over 15 guns since 2018-19, offing the Chinese dupes, mismatched or parts-built rifles, a Romy and Alby. I ran across some insane deals from various parts of the country. I gotta quit perusing the gun forum marketplaces  :) PAX

Laugh Pax!!

You should talk to GM about your little issue.

He will be the first to tell you that step 1 is identifying the problem, or is it admitting you have a problem?  or perhaps it's rejecting the premise that you even have a problem.  I forget because I don't have a problem.  chuckles1

I can stop at any time...really I can...as long as something sweet doesn't cross my path... On another note, I've been offing much of my auto "junk" too and trying to consolidate by brand. I was digging through my AMX bits and stumbled on to 3 AMX grills NOS, 2 NIB and a great used one. 2 '69s and a '70s and 2 rear "AMX" badged reflectors. I completely forgot about those. They're Unicorn horn scarce and will magically turn into Russian or Yugo M59C iron  chuckles1. I sold my '66 RHD Tiger and '67 Alpine donor last December, sans the HP 289 K code Cobra motor (it's laying in wait). I'm down to one '66 Alpine (stabbing an Olds 215 in it), a '71 VW  Bug and a '71 Volvo 142S. One thing, guns take up less room than cars and flying machines and don't smell like 90wt or fabric dope and are much easier to smuggle into the house. PAX

When I fled from CA around 1998, I remember seeing most SKS rifles being sold in gunshops in Socal that had the bayonets taken off. The lugs were still there. I had inquired a few times as to why the gunshop owner were selling them castrated and was told that they were still legal to sell but not with the bayo attached. I never stuck around long enough to see if that was true. Living there almost my entire childhood was enough. Did this law actually exist or were the shop owners FOS or did this change?

One of the main reasons I moved was because I was not going to let some state tell me what I can and cannot own. I loaded my car with everything I owned and $1000 in my pocket and the rest is history. Within a few years I owned most every so-called "evil" rifle I wanted and then some.

BTW, awesome collection of SKS rifles. I am not fond of the plastic aftermarket stocks though. Did you buy them like that or add them? I assume you probably bought the Od green and black one like that. No offense but some "mall ninja" guy prolly tossed the wood stocks...sad. lol

The bayo ban wars confused many Kali FFLs with regards to Chinese SKS rifles. As recently as 2 years ago some 01s wouldn't even transfer or buy Chinese rifles due to FUD. The 2 poly stocked rifles are repo clones of very rare guns offered by the importer, KSI.

I just happened to have a KSI branded Butler Creek stock to replicate a KSI "Parka Para" and a spare Ramline to knock off a KSI "Stealth Para". Both donors were/are KSI Hunters with the "nowhere rail", matching numbered stocks and inletting for the rails. The stock cut outs bothered me so I did some evil works to them. The Butler Creek furniture is actually some of the best, if not the best, aftermarket SKS furniture. I've used them on a couple home-grown projects. PAX

"Canadian Deer Stalker" I built out of a pre-Bubba salvage with a black BC stock (the wrist button is a little different), 18'5 barrel chop, neutered front site globe, Mojo rear peep, 5 round mag, matching numbers, very slick, very handy

Nowhere rail and stock notch as commonly found (no known mount fits the rail)

Very rare KSI Hunter without the rail cut and importer optioned as shown (except Romy sling I added...looks sweet) This rifle also has the bayo slot filled in which I believe was importer done as the finish is evenly crappy

Thanks for clarifying that. To be honest. I always wanted a SKS-D and/or a Paratrooper even though they were not milsurps I have always liked the shortness and the look of them. Makes a good truck gun for sure like my FR-8.

I view the Paras in the same light as "true" collector rifles...aka... Russians. They shouldn't but some types are quite rare and can hold value and be $pendy. PAX
