Hi to all the SKS fans
« on: January 03, 2016, 10:17:56 AM »
I'm new here so here it goes. I have a 1954r Tula that I want to put a 20rd fixed box mag (I call it the Chinese wedge) on. well it seems to fit good I can load 20rds in it by hand. I can feel drag but after 2 shells are popped out it seems to loosen up. It wont kick out the last shell. I guess I will have to do some tweaking to it, but has anyone had the same issues with the 20rd fixed mag? if so can you give me some pointers. Thanks

I briefly had one and never used it.  Seems most aftermarket mags are hit/miss.

Welcome aboard!

I had the 20 round Chinese Star magazine on my very first SKS. They are hit and miss with how well they work. The feed lips on them are very thin and often bend out of proper shape. Mine used to fire a couple of rounds and then prematurely stovepipe a live round on the next cycle.

You'll have to play with the feed lips and try to get your feeling correct.

No, definitely don't shave any metal off.

Can you describe in a little better detail what the issue is?

Not a direct help, since I have no experience with aftermarket mags, but if you can't get that integral 20 rounder to work well consistently, then I'd suggest putting the stock 10 round magazine back on and buying some surplus Yugoslavian M67 (in the 40 round boxes) to get the quality stripper clips for rapid reloads. It's currently available at SGAmmo or Sportsman's Guide. In my experience the NC Star strippers are junk. I can tweak some of them and get them to work but none of them work as well as the Yugoslavian strippers.

First off Thanks for the quick replies. I will state this that I'm against "Bubba" SKS mods. well I do have good stripper clips 20 out of 100 needed some work. I guess they are good I find it easy if I pull up on last shell. as far as the 20rd mag I load all 20 by hand for now. I have to give a good pull to charge the bolt. the 1st and 2nd shells give me issues but after that I can pop them out one by one. now the very last shell seems not to come up the be fed properly. I do still have the matching 10rd fix box, but was thinking of getting another. with the spare is thinking of popping the pin on it and the 20rd and switch out the feeder.
