DWM 1916 LP.08
« on: August 02, 2015, 12:29:48 PM »
Well, I fell off the wagon...ended up with a DWM 1916 Artillery Luger.. the LP.08, LP.08 = Lange Pistole (model of) 1908, Lange Pistole equals Long Pistol. This Luger variant was only made from 1914 to 1918, with 1917 production totalling more than all the other years together. The 1916 production is est. 20,000, not the rarest, but, not common.  Only the toggle pin is mis-matched, it's numbered, as I understand, the actual 1916 pin would not be numbered, they became numbered in the early 1930s, the grip panels have no serial that I could see, but the wood base magazine is matching as is all other parts and pieces.

The front sight is windage adjustable with the screw, the rear sight is elevation adjustable, as well as slider adjustable for extreme distance. When raising the rear sight with the ladder, the pin that the rear sight pivots on is drilled eccentric, the sight ladder will pivot slightly to the left, as a riflling twist compensation assist at extreme distance.

I'm going to make him an offer he can't refuse......

Oh man, an artillery Luger!  8) That is a really nice score.  The checkering on the grips looks as sharp as the rifling in the bore.  Fine example GM.  thumb1

Now that is a fascinating piece and a fine looking example. How cool is it that a pistol is made with a rear sight that compensates for drift at several hundred yards?!

I guess you don't find Lugers so monotonously and tediously boring anymore?

Being this is my 4th Luger, they are not much different (excitement or boring wise) than finding a very nice example of any other weapon of the particular era, whether it be a 1916 M91 Peter the Great Mosin, a Mle 1916 Berthier, an M96 1916 Swedish Mauser or even an M1916 Spanish Mauser.  I'd buy any one of them and walk away happy, none are made any longer, and all are getting harder to find, and I like diversity. :)

I'd rather buy a golf cart. Or a chainsaw.
