Opinion- Put trenchart stock on rare Yugo or build another
« on: September 12, 2019, 09:53:10 AM »
I am debating on whether to put this cool trenchart stock on my rare 1989 M59/66 to 'save' wood condition on it or just buy parts and build another. Let me know what you think!

In a perfect situation for myself, I'd say use it for a wall-hanger. If you had a complete 59/66 that wasn't in that good of operating condition, or simply non-operable, that would be the ideal solution. If you like the trench art that much, you probably don't want to damage it by dragging it around the woods or the range. Building another rifle just for being able to use the stock seems to double the "I don't want to use this, just look at it" scenario.

But these are just my own opinions. You may have enough of the Yugo's that an extra two or three "for looks" is completely cool. All good for you! Many of mine are "just for lookin' at", too!

I had an old Yugo with trench art which was entirely shot out with corrosive ammo.  It would cycle after I did the paper clip trick to seal the gas tube.  But it would tumble every other bullet.  It wouldn't clean up with shooting.  Regrettably, I chose to rebarrel it with a Chinese, and make a Franken-build.

So, then I had a trench art stock sitting around for years.  I finally found another shot-out Yugo action at a gun show, missing the stock.  I put the trench art stock on it, to give it another life.

Thanks for the input so far guys. My thought was to put the trenchart on my 1989 Yugo since it's fairly rare. I guess the trenchart is too but it already has nicks, etc, whereas the 1989 SKS is EX+ condition. But I am curious to all opinions. Keep them coming!

That’s a cool set of stocks, M70 and M59/66, both with the Serbian Cross trench art. The latter would look good on a nicely worn M59/66.

I'm the lone vote for building another rifle.
I love trench art.

Thanks for the replies, I'm still torn so I'll have to kick it around. Feel free to chime in. Hah, yeah, those stickers on the M70 handguards are Balkan babes  :)

late to the party, but I'm sure you can find a barreled yugo action for that stock ...

(man, i wish I could find a m70 stock like that.)

Yeah, if I can find a barreled receiver for the right price I'll bite, let me know if you come across one. As for the M70 stock; I've missed out on more than I got, keep looking and you'll find one!
