Title: Windham Weaponry Carbon AR
Post by: Power Surge on November 09, 2014, 07:43:52 PM
This is my new Windham Weaponry AR-15. This is the Carbon fiber SRC (sight ready carbine).

The upper and lower and made of 60% polymer and 40% carbon fiber. The red dot is a cheapy Primary Arms piece, but works awesome.

For those who aren't familiar with Windham, they are the original owner and workers of Bushmaster, before Bushmaster was bought out back in 2006.

Windham contracted with some big name carbon fiber expert in Arizona to do the uppers and lowers. They are much improved over the old Bushmaster Carbon-15 that didn't seem to work too well.

That's "top shelf" Power! Just out of curiosity why the short length of smaller barrel O.D. in front of the hand guard?

Not sure...that's a standard M4 profile barrel. Their heavy barrel models are the same diameter all the way.

Honestly, I never even tried it, it was a spur of the moment purchase for a banging price I couldn't say no to. But as time passed, the temptation to fire or really even look at it went away, so it went away.

Hey Danny, I found the description of the M4 barrel in the Windham catalog. It says the recessed area is for attaching the M4 grenade launcher :)

Bipod added tonight. Also ordered one of those high power green tactical lasers mentioned in the other thread.

Not knocking your gun, but I had a poly upper and ripped the threads off of it. Scared the crap out of me. Purchased an aluminum upper, rebuilt the rifle and sold it off and made 50.00. Granted that was some time back, but I am "gun shy" on poly uppers now. How yours woks well for you.

It's ok..I'm hearing a lot of that from people because previous poly guns had a lot of issues. Windham took all those issues other guns were having into account when designing this gun, and solved all the older issues. I searched online and could not find one person who's had an issue with this rifle...everyone raves about it.

If I was going to buy a carbon AR right now it would Windham. Very nice weapon. Keep us updated on its performance.

New pic as of today. I had previously had that green laser installed, but to make it work I had to use an offset mount, and put it in front of the red dot, which required me moving the red dot so far back I needed to put on an extended charge handle lever to clear it.

Today, I replaced the clamshell hand guard with a drop in quad rail, and was able to move the laser down and to the side, and then move my red dot back forward. Very happy how it came out, now tomorrow I get to re sight it :)

And the performance has been flawless so far for those who asked.  thumb1

A few targets from re-sighting today. These are 2.5" and 2.75" groups at 50 yards, with a non-magnified red dot. The red dot at 50 yards covers the entire white center of the target....

Ya know...ARs are neat and all, but honestly they are so cookie cutter and boring to shoot. I like my SKS's because they have character...clickly clack noises and all.
