I recently got a paratrooper, /26\ 3 million serial with a spike bayonet. Bubba cut the stock to fit the bayonet....
...bad Bubba. I am a weekend woodworker and thought I could fill in the stock and re-cut the blade groove if I only had some Chu wood. At the store where everything is $1, I bought some paint brushes with Chu handles. Amber shellac on the brush handle and it was a perfect match...but too small for the groove. Then I was in a big box home improvement store this past weekend and something caught my eye. They had samples of pre-finished hardwood flooring labeled as maple that was clearly Chu. I got a 4" x 14" sample for $4 and took it home. Perfect match...so far. I milled out the slot in the stock, cut a piece of flooring to fit and it is in glue and clamps now. I will post pics when it is finished!
