1949 for sale
« on: August 08, 2023, 07:25:23 PM »
So for starters I’m not going to bid on this (even though I’m tempted) I’m simply asking for future reference. This rifle looks to be a Westrifle import (hence the frankenpin) and it seems a lot in this auction are. My question is would you consider buying this rifle knowing it could be a fake of some sort or would you pass on it out of principle, what kind of a discount would you put on a rifle that’s been faked? https://bid.switzersauction.com/item.aspx?i=49739629 (There are 2 1949s in this auction)

Thanks again for the information you guys gave me on my 1949

It appears to be a decent example. If it is a Westrifle, I don't see anything overtly suspicious. The stock may have been re-stamped. But it is unclear if it is a replacement or simply a re-stamping of the original serial number. A aardwood 1949 stocks are extremely uncommon.

I will be posting pictures of this rifle when I receive it from auction house. I looked at it very carefully and thought that it was worth it. Prices in Canada are getting crazy. Funny thing is that around a week before I was looking at another 49. Bought it the day before the auction. It has the same prefix as the one in the auction. Seller did not provide very many pictures but it looks like the magazine doesn't have a rivet, so it could be an early build. Also not frankenpinned. It looked like it had a blade stock on it, but I have a laminate replacement that I can put on. See for sure when I get it.

I’m glad someone bought it lol, it’s a shame I couldn’t get it. Side note what are yugos worth in Canada nowadays. I see that there are a couple for like 2k but I wrote those off as wildly overpriced
