Missing mag
« on: June 24, 2023, 07:21:10 PM »
I bought what appears to be a really nice Tula SKS, however it is missing the standard magazine. Does anyone have an idea if this will lessen the value of the rifle if the magazine has no serial number? Thanks!

Yes, it’s one of the serialized components that should match. A blank Russian mag (hard to find) is better than a mismatched mag but either is clearly not original. About a $100-150 subtraction to me.

What would be the approximate value of a really nice Tula SKS with matching numbers except the blank mag? Thans again!

Without the original mag it's no longer a 'collector' piece.  It would should be valued at whatever 'shooter' grade SKS45s are going for these days.  Condition is important.

Without photos there are a lot of unknowns to give you a price. Is it a heavy or light refurb? Are any other parts not matching or forced matched? What the actual overall condition is? etc...

Bob is correct, there is a fairly broad range in there based on the parameters he lays out.

Even with the mismatch mag a ‘shooter’ Russian SKS45 will typically command a premium over an equal condition ‘shooter’  Chinese type 56. Doesn’t really make sense to me, but it’s the reality we live in.
