POSP SCOPE - NEED INFO AND ADVICE
« on: January 04, 2022, 10:14:33 AM »
I recently inherited a POSP 4x24V scope. It was given to me because I '...have an AK47'

True, but mine is a MAK90, and this scope cannot be mounted on it.  :(

The mount on it apparently is for a VEPR/SAIGA, correct? On back of the mount we see "AK 12" - the fella who originally bought the scope at one time had an AK 12ga, I believe, but he never had a scope on it.

Does anyone know if this mount will fit on any SAIGA AK, or just the shotgun? Can the existing mount be interchanged with one that will fit a different rifle?

I know that in its present form, I can't use the scope, but it is a really nice piece, and I'll bet there is someone out there who could.

Any advice or opinions would be welcome.

Welcome to the boards!

One of the more knowledgeable members will be around shortly to give an answer.

The Cyrillic writing on the mount reads "ON" and "OFF"

Very very similar to this mount I found on eBay:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/383797044048

And then using that and some Google-Fu, it looks like it's originally designed as a Dragonov SVD scope and mount and your particular mount is a "BelOMO POSP 4x24. Note the MTK83 AK mount instead of the two SVD mounts".

Looks like a very nice mount and optic!  Hope this helps. thumb1

Thanks for the welcome, and yes, that does help. The item on eBay (and many others posted there) are similar, with the same type of, and various similar mounts. Looks like some were made for export, with english markings, while mine has cyrillic markings, and the included manual is also in Russian.

And thanks for the link to Russian Optics...I had not seen site that before.

There is a difference in mounts, one is an AK mount, the other is the SVD/PSL style. Below explains more. Typically they are not interchangeable, although some later ones claim to be, I've never verified. Neither of my PSL's scope will fit my WASR or Saiga.

I'm going to make him an offer he can't refuse......

These are the two most common AK variant mounts.. China had a few that were proprietary to their own designs.

Typical 7.62x39 mounts, Saiga, WASR series, Bulgarian Arsenal and others

Typical SVD, PSL-54C, M76, etc.. The Tiger/Draganov/NDM-86 mount looks different, but scopes for the PSL and the Russian counterparts are interchangeable. Also, I believe some Yugo 7.62x39 AKs use this pattern.

There are scopes/bare mounts available that have a swappable mount base to fit neither style of the above mounts. The biggest thing is, if it's a drop compensated scope, make sure it's calibrated for the round. Doesn't do much good to have a 5.45x39, 7.62x54r or an 8mm/7.62nato scope on a 7.62x39 gun.
