1942 SVT-40 Tula made, at Mednogorsk
« on: June 28, 2020, 08:45:11 PM »
I picked this up a while ago but was looking at it recently in light of the information now available from Gunboards and CGN member "Horilka" on the fairly new M9130 site:

https://www.m9130.info/svt-40

It turns out that my one and only SVT-40 is a fairly scarce variant. The 1941 Tula/Mednogorsk (No. 314) SVT-40s are the most common and 1942s or 1940s from No. 314 are about an order of magnitude less common. Mine has the grooves cut in the receiver rails for mounting the scope and has one of the correct prefixes for a sniper but was never selected for completing the build to a sniper, as indicated by the lack of a notch in the top-rear of the receiver. This particular configuration apparently accounts for only about 2 per thousand SVT-40s made.

Other than that, it's a typical refurbished SVT-40 with a mix of early and late parts, and even a couple of Izhevsk parts. Numbers are EP'd to match except the traditional mismatched magazine. CDI was the importer and used a fairly discreet 4 pt font import mark on the right rear of the receiver with their own SN arranged vertically on the extreme right rear of the receiver.

Damn, you find some gems! I laugh cause you sit on these things and months, years or moons later you drop the beauties on us. Congrats on this find. Really nice rifle.

What is the stamp that shows it a Mednogorsk? I haven't checked the link yet. I have to get to bed soon.

You ever heard of a broner?

That's where another guy does, or has, something so manly that it gives you an erection.

Guess what that rifle is doing to me.........

Thanks Bob!

NKV No. 314 was at Tula until the Germans were threatening its location on the southern outskirts of Moskva. They moved the SVT-40 production line to Mednogorsk and began producing SVTs, still as No. 314, still with a star, in December 1941. In short, there is no truly distinguishing mark, but from the year stamp and prefix letter you can determine that it’s a June 1942 production rifle made at Mednogorsk.

That’s cool!

I am just happy to have one. They aren’t as common down here, and the prices reflect that.

I got mine 19 months ago for $1.6K and was happy to pay that. I'd say they're in the 1500-2000 range currently.

I remember when I passed on one for $850 cause it only had 1 mag and I thought the price was too high. banghead1 banghead1 banghead1

Of course I'm the guy that passed on a complete PSL set up from a dealer friend at a great price because it was not "left hand friendly" dash2 dash2

Very nice unique specimen. If you're happy about the cost that's cool.

I was helping my FFL bud at a show a few years back, and he had an SVT40 for sale for $1450 that wasn't taking any hits. At the show's end, I offered 2 SKSs and 2 Big 5 91/30s for it and he accepted. '41 Tula matching refurb but with an SVT38 mag. I later bought back one SKS for $300. PAX
