Chinese Type 63/68 Full auto sks
« on: August 19, 2016, 07:40:37 AM »
Well good news...sort of... My wife just booked a trip for us to visit Vietnam during next year's Tet, so late January. (She likes to go back n visit family once a year but I hate the long flight so often stay home).

So...being next to to Cambodia, ya I gotta go back there too. Lots of cool stuff to shoot there :)

Last time I went I fired a few choice items and took some pics of an odd looking Sks-rifle that caught my interest but never fired it. Upon researching it later, I learned that it was a Type 63/68! Damn!

Well I'll definitely be hunting down that same range and rifle with better pics and I'll definitely shoot it this time if it's still there. I'll also be trying to hunt down n trying to buy an elusive 1949 Russian spike bayo...as I've seen pics of their Royal palace guards holding rifles with these.

Just curious, why is it called Type 68?

It has been called a Type 63 and a type 68. The latter seems to be a bit of a misnomer with type 63 being correct.

Not an sks. It is its own type of firearm drawing from other designs but similar in appearance to the sks.

Cool...  Get us some pics of the arsenal stamp and serial!!!

The Chinese are quite adamant about its model designation from what I have read.

Old post, but good and I guess bad news update. The wife is still going away to VN but I bailed out. Long story but she pissed me off. So she's gone away 3-4 times on trips in the last two years solo,,Texas,California and now Vietnam twice. Time to book my own solo bucket list trip. Stalingrad! Now called Volgograd. Start at Moscow, train to Stalingrad, then off to Donetsk ,,war zone in eastern Ukraine. Going in May. Will keep an eye out for our loved sks of course.

Bummer about VN, but Russia has always interested me...sounds like you have quite the adventure planned!
Keep an eye out for the civilian SKSs that supposedly are available there. Pics of those would be cool....also check out the bayonets and let us know why on earth they are civilian grade...and what that means. If they have a Cabela's or Bass Pro Shop like place, see if they have the neodymium magnet attached shell deflectors, if they are reasonable there vs. what they charge here...I might beg you to pick one up for me. They are kind of neat, and can live in the range bag until use.  :)
