Suppressed Yugo SKS On The Cheap
« on: October 06, 2014, 10:13:45 PM »
Found these adapters on e-bay with 14x1 RH thread adapters http://www.ebay.com/itm/Solvent-Trap-14x1-RH-3-4-16-Thread-Oil-Filter-Adapter-/271310094449?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f2b578071

I guess an oil filter would work as a suppressor and the first shot would make the hole at the other end.
Obviously the iron sights would be obscured by the filter but if you had optics like a red dot that might work.
Anyone try these ?

Very interesting...  someone needs to try this.  I nominate Sandstone.   :)

I'm tempted for the price...I'm pretty sure it would be effective.
The fact the seller is not advertising it for use as a oil filter suppressor adapter tells me that screwing an oil filter to the muzzle of a pistol/rifle is not legal ?
Anyone know for sure before I order  think1

The part that is being sold on Ebay is just a simple thread reducer.  Theoretically it has many uses and in and of itself I don't think it's illegal to possess that particular component.  Same goes with a standard oil filter; lots of uses, not illegal to possess in and of itself.  Even having them both together on a rifle is a gray area as they try and call it a 'solvent trap' to be used for capturing excess solvent when cleaning your rifle.  I'd guess they would look at intent if they were trying to prosecute you.

Of course, using it as a silencer, would be 100% illegal because you wouldn't have obtained your $200 NRA stamp.  The parts don't have the required S/N markings, etc.

Here's a couple good links, notice the images of the silencers in the ATF guide are homemade:

After all, we should do our part to save the environment from solvents and cow farts. (Can we say that here?!  :o )

one of the sellers of these adapters stated that most filters are a tapered thread so if you wanted to use this long term you'd best shop around for a good one. You can register the adapter with a filter attached as long as it's legal in your state just a mater of paperwork and cash

As I understand it, it's not illegal to have those adapters.  It is illegal to screw them on a rifle and then screw an oil filter or other "suppressor" like device on the adapter.

Suppressors are linked to one owner and are marked with serial numbers, caliber, and mfg.  An oil filter obviously doesn't meet those requirements.

However......
