Polytech Hunter #439
« on: September 11, 2015, 06:47:47 PM »
One model that has been eluding my commercial collection was the Polytech Hunter. I missed out on two previous ones, but this time around things worked out and I actually got this one at a lower price than the previous two.

What's also nice, is that this is a new serial for the Poly Hunter list.

I picked it up from transfer at my local FFL this morning, and went straight to the range. She shot nice, but it does need to be broken down and cleaned as it was oozing a good amount of comsoline. (side note - why are some commercial guns packed in cosmo?)

According to Joe's info on the guide, this is the most modified SKS there was.

Pics below :)

Inverted take down and notched stock

Ambidextrous safety

Milled open and shaved FSB

Rear windage adjustable sight

The rear sight required a relief cut into the bolt carrier

Heavily modified SKS magazine that holds 5 rounds

Uncle Mike's sling mounts, on a stud that takes the place of the cleaning rod hole...this is how they came

Polytech serial stamping. Look closely and you can see where the original serial was welded and milled.

5 round grouping after sight in

You dog!

This is actually the only commercial sks I would like to own some day.  They are just plain sexy and the most practical design IMHO.

1776 will commence again if you try to take our firearms... It doesn't matter how many Lenins you get out on the street begging for them to be taken.

Thanks :). It is a pretty gun.

Here's one more interesting modification on this gun (not shown on the guide page)....

The mag is made to drop out of the gun, as opposed to being held in by the trigger assembly and having a dropping trap door. Check out the relief cut in the bolt to allow it to drop out....

The trigger group is also modded to allow any fixed mag to "drop free". Including 10 rounders. Another nice score.

That old gun cabinet must be busting at the seams now!

Thanks Joe...yeah, it's pretty full. I've got 10 rifles fitted in a 5 gun cabinet, and two that are just loose now.

Oh, here's a question for you... why are some commerical models packed with cosmoline?

I think most all rifles that are shipped overseas get a bath in cosmoline. Pretty much mandatory. We all know the wood crate doesn't offer much protection from the salt air and humidity.
