2 M21 N 5754 on receiver and H5754 on all other parts ?
« on: January 31, 2017, 03:57:54 PM »
I purchased a SKS and I'm not sure quite what it is.  The receiver is stamped 2 M21 N 5754 and the mag, trigger guard, carrier and cover are stamped H5754.  I was under the impression that lettered rifles had the same serial number on the receiver.  I would believe matching parts were placed on a different receiver, but the "5754" numbers match.  Any idea?  I have not seen this before and can't find any information on it.

I've long suspected the "2" prefix letter guns were rebuilt/refurbished guns.  The M21 is a new wrinkle though, I've not seen this before.  Do you think you could post a photo or two of the receiver and some of the components.  We should be able to compare fonts, scrub marks, original expected component configuration, and import stamp information and come up with a good guess as to what it is you have.

Instructions for posting photos are here: http://sks-files.com/index.php?topic=87.0

Here's an example of a "2" prefixed letter gun:

hopefully the pics work.  There are no arsenal stamps on the receiver either.  Looks like NA Cc is the importer stamp.  Thanks.

That N looks like it was stamped at the same time as the M21, and not the same time as the serial.

Also, post some overall pics of that gun. I see a side rail on there and you say it's got a NA import stamp it could be a commercial Navy Arms model.

It looks like three possible different fonts on that receiver: the original H series numbers (with the H scrubbed), the M21 and the N, and the leading 2.  Perhaps it was the importer trying to make one long "importer-unique" serial number  ???  Odd duck, for sure.

Bizarre gun!    Wonder of this adds credence to the idea early m21s were made in the same 59/60 timeframe along side the letter guns..... Atleast this variation having the 'N'.

Additional overall photos for Power Surge request

The other owner stated it used to have a blade bayonet, but he placed in on another SKS he had.

Cool thanks. Looks like a navy arms standard sks that was ordered with a type 89 scope rail.

Thanks!  So was it an early M21 N rifle that had the other numbers added later by the Navy Arms importer or Chinese refurbisher?

I don't believe any of these receiver markings were applied by NA other then their spicific normal markings.  This type of model/serial marking has never been seen before.

The 2 in front is just bizarre. There's no way it was put there before the 'M21 N' was applied. It does seem to match the letter S/N font though.  It's been thought that M21s were specifically made for export.

Interesting that this one is a Navy Arms import. They definitely got a good share of salty guns, I wonder how this one came to be imported.
