Russian SKS45s are the most sought after on the market right now.  In my opinion they will never be "rare", but they do get expensive, especially for low productions years, as-issued guns, or Izhevsk arsenal.

Why are AI/NR 1954s selling in the Izhevsk price range?

Are there so few AI/NR guns available from any year that even the '54 are hot commodity?

Looks like the bayonet has been removed before.

So here's a question: Does the removal of the bayonet (and subsequent breaking and non-alignment of the stake marks) reduce the value of a gun that has a nice original stock, clean metal, and otherwise appears to not have been dickered with?

Why are AI/NR 1954s selling in the Izhevsk price range?

Are there so few AI/NR guns available from any year that even the '54 are hot commodity?

No idea, I just track them I don't set the prices!   

Once I get the December results done I'll post the 2017 year trends.  Should be interesting to see if the trend is truly up like it appears.

Out of curiosity, I dug out my 54 from safe. It could be a replica of the one sold for $1300.00, but with different S/N. I can post some pictures later if someone would like to see.

Real pretty gun jstin2.  The dark fill in the cartouche and S/N on the stock make me look twice perhaps, but really nice gun all in all.

R-M, enlighten me about what you see. I bought this carbine privately from a local, but looking at magazine pinning, it could have been from west rifle originally. I need to learn what to look for and what to avoid.

I purchased this one. It is a Tula refurbished SKS for sure, and it is marked 1949. There is some question about whether it is truly a 49, and not later model that had a 49 top cover installed on it, but I am not convinced. There is no evidence that the S/N was ground off the back of the top cover and restamped, it has the original early design bolt assembly on it, and a few other hallmarks that make me think it is a true 1949 that has been refurbished.

I plan on starting a thread on it, I just haven't gotten around to it yet! I was looking at this rifle with some interest, and had to contact the seller for more detailed photos before I finally hit the BIN. I don't think I would have risked it without better photos. Ill start a new thread with photos soon.

I sure would like to take a closer look at that...about the only things that can be confirmed via the auction photos is it has an early RSB and a 45 degree gas block.  If it has a 49 cover chances are it is a mid 50 with the looped receiver cover latch before they stopped using them, and a 45 degree gas block in the short period of time between 90 degree blocks and whatever we call what became the 'standard' SKS gas block. 1950 saw a lot of transitional components in various combinations.  49 and 50 covers will only work with 49-50 guns....during refurb those covers likely were mixed in with other early covers, scrubbed and reserialed to match the gun....it could also have been a NOS 49 cover that fit, and was later stamped to match the gun.

Careful attention to all serial numbers would be great to see.

Does the receiver cover look to be a different finish than the rest of the gun? It looks more matte like the early covers do...at least in comparison to the receiver in that one photo.

Neat gun...I really want to add a 45 degree block Russian to the collection. Great score! Congrats!!
