Are SKS serial numbers such as this more valuable?
« on: March 22, 2022, 08:46:12 PM »
This Chinese SKS one has an interesting serial number.

Does this number add value or is it just something more of a collector would want?

Intrinsically, the unique serial doesnt make it any more valuable than any other standard sks.

But it could be more valuable to someone.

The after market stock, amd missing mag and bayonet will also drive the price down.

I agree - figured the price would be lower at this point.

I'll wager it'll hold close to where it is at for the next 10 days then go up another $100 or so the last day. Unless there is more than one person who thinks this is the lucky Leprechaun SKS of all time, LOL.
My Avatar is a pic of the real "Ghost" SKS in honor of xxxsks(joe). It is a pic of a fully decked out SKS in Capco hunter's kit. This was mine, the only other pic I had ever seen of one was Joe's.

I just thought it was interesting.  Didn't think it would add a lot of value, but I'm still fairly new to the world of the SKS.

And it is interesting, kind of like the 666 arsenal code SKSs. If this was in original configuration and matching I bet it would bring $600-$700 just cause of the SN. There are some collectors out there who'd pay for it just cause of the SN, but being w/o all the matching stuff hurts it quite a bit. Still a good buy at the $355 in today's market, but someone will think the SN is cool and bump it up another $100 is all I'm saying.

There's probably someone out there who has an SKS with SN 12345678 or something like that, LOL.

I just remembered...

There was a 23rd year carbine with serial number 1 that went up for auction on gunbroker several years ago. RM may have archived in the sales tracking  thread.

I may be mistaken, but iirc, it sold  for north of $3,000 USD.

Anyone else remember that one?

I’d consider paying 3K for a Type 56 with a star on the receiver that was 0001 (or 1, or 01, or 001), but not for the first one off the line in 1978.
