Long Barrel M59s found!
« on: September 05, 2015, 12:20:03 PM »
Hi Everyone,
I found a pair of crates with original M59 Long Barrel rifles  :o  Loose}{Cannon asked me to join this forum and detail/research
the findings.   I've been in SKS acquisition mode this year so the timing is great.  Eventually I'll take them outside for pics
I will keep adding pics as I take them out of the crates.    All info on them is appreciated as 2 weeks ago I didn't know these existed.

Be careful...a unicorn might jump out of the crate when you take out the last one.

TWO CRATES OF LB M59's !?!?

You must have done something pretty heroic in a past life.....I have only seen auctions for two of these over the last few years....and you have 20?

Gold mine indeed!    Just to be clear I have 2 crates of LB AND "C" batch M59s totall.   10 Long barrels and 5 of the same condition "C" block M59s totall.

I need to get pics of the possible trainer and one with  wrist bolt up as well.

So far I have serial #'s

007
009
These 2 are even more rare than the others.  More on them later.

080
096

I'm opening them and cleaning as time permits.  Back to work and few more quick shots of the next 4 with a pair of "C" series

Welcome aboard Ras....  Fan-freaking tastic score man!

Good lord, you must be the luckiest sks owner/buyer on the planet... Go play the lottery now!!!!    rofl

Yup... A list of all serials and their barrel length is a must for info preservation.   thumb1

I find that C block long barrel with normal front site to be a very odd and interesting critter.  I have a thing for odd balls!  May wanna do a full spread of individual pics and info just on that gun alone.

More full sized pics.  And yes, just did notice the "C" series with the Long barrel as well.  I'll do a separate post on that one alone.  As well as the 007 and 009 1st batch prototypes with the slightly even longer long barrel than the other 0X0 serial Long Barrels.

For those devoted to Yugo SKS, what you have there is pretty much the Ark of the Covenant. Thanks for the peek, there's no way to overstate the importance of these rifles.  clap1 clap1 clap1

Welcome to the boards Raspootyn!  Glad to have you here!

As everyone else has said, absolutely AMAZING find there.  Very impressive!  Thanks so much for sharing!  thumb1

Is it possible to get any photos of the crates themselves?  Maybe any external tags, waybills, or stencils that might shed some light on where these things originated before importation?

(I'd ask you about how they came into your possession, but I'm guessing you're keeping that close in hand (I know I would if I found such a treasure trove holding out for the possibility that lightning strikes twice!)

Again, welcome to the boards!  clap1

Unfortunately the original crates were gone and there was no paperwork with them at all....   They were taken out of the original crates and boxed long before I got to them.
Then they sat in the boxes for a few years forgotten about.  That's probably why no one found them before me.  Everyone was looking for crates and no one checked the
individual unmarked boxes.   Probably thought they were old Mosins M44s or something, LOL.

Yeah, since these were separated out, I would not be surprised if there are a few more like these floating around in storage/warehouses in the back somewhere.

Very neat!

I saw on the GB thread that you mentioned they had a small Samco import stamp on the barrel.  Does it look like this one:

or is the text different?

What I find rather interesting, is that this C-block LB that was already on the list for years has a serial of c50456 which the 50456 should put it in the D-block of 59/66.  Figure that one out!

Just found it...  Actually has no C, just the #.

Actually has no C, just the #.

It seems to me like the receiver stamping on 50456 is a thicker font, not as fine as most, stamped more heavily than is usual as well, and with horizontal alignment slightly off. There's a reference to a 2nd rifle in the 50k range elsewhere, though the number is not given and owner not named. It would be great to have a chance to compare the two. Not sure what JNA was doing there, as LC pointed out the numbers belong in "D" block 59/66 production. Hard to make sense of it.

Good job finding that LC, there's some provenance info there as well. I noticed Ol Dukes serial is a familiar one, he had contributed a pic to Withergyld's site that was left unsupported and I think we probably know what was in it now.  :) clap1
