New to me a Chinese SKS
« on: February 11, 2015, 11:16:09 AM »
Here is my one and only SKS from I assume the last IO, Palm Bay Import.  Got it from Robertson's Trading Co in Tennessee.

It's all matching 3214581 /26\ and 214581 on all the other serialized parts including the firing pin block (not pictured here).

There is a small 5 pointed star stamped into the wood on the right side of the stock.  it also has a cleaning kit in the stock pouch.  I didn't expect that.

I reported to this SKS to the SKS survey folks, Runningmans SKS survey.

I also believe the serial number points to 1958.

The Gun

The receiver serial number.

The Trigger guard Serial number.

The magazine serial number.

The bolt serial number.

The Stock Serial Number.

The Recoil/Firing pin block cover serial number.

Import stamp and one piece gas tube.

Star stamped on right side of stock.

That looks like a real beauty.  Don't often find stocks in that kind of condition from the recent batch of imports from Albania.  I know it's tough this time of year with limited daylight hours, but could you take some pictures in natural daylight when you get a chance?  I suspect it's even better looking than it appears in those flash photos.

Have you cleaned it completely yet?  Don't forget the bolt disassembly and cleaning of the firing pin channel to get that FP rattling freely as it should.

Thanks for sharing.

You are correct about natural light maybe I can this weekend.  I do all my P.38's that way.   I have cleaned the interior. The firing pin was frozen but I have freed it up and shot it a few times.  The was no cosmoline in the gun just in the stock.  The bolt hold open and the magazine spring needed some work to get functioning correctly and the gas tube and piston needed a lot of cleaning too and did not have any serial no. electro penciled on them.
I don't plan on cleaning the stock up much more as I want to leave it in the character it came to me.  That is a hold over from from the Axis pistol collecting days, get it in working order if needed then leave the rest alone.

That is a really nice example Don!  Easily in the upper 5% of the all the Sino-Banians that came in.  It sounds like you have a good handle on things.  Welcome to the boards.  thumb1

Nice...   The star stamped in the stock began with the 3m 1958... have any pics of that?

Doing an intro is not mandatory here, but thanks for doing it as it gives us an idea on who you are.   thumb1

1776 will commence again if you try to take our firearms... It doesn't matter how many Lenins you get out on the street begging for them to be taken.

Wow Don...what a beauty, I have a 3 mill also! You have a real looker on your hands Sir. Running-man or Cannon, this stock must have been among the last of that run with the bottom mounted sling swivel? Is that a 2 piece gas tube or are my eyes just screwed up?!

Just looks like shadows Danny...

The side swivel came sometime in the latter half of 58... and its not a defined serial point but more like a mixture in the second half.

No star pics yet.  I didn't see it until after the photos here were taken.  But that will happen this weekend even with the cold temps.
