There are two M21 variations...  we really need some detailed pics of the receiver markings and overall rifle.

Scroll down near the bottom and you will find both versions.

Thats an early m21, only examples we have were Nam bringbacks and are not import marked.  Does yours have an import mark anywhere?  Looks to have a replacement spike cut stock. The original stock would have been cut for a blade bayo.

Pretty kool buckeye!

Here's what I see:

-Long barrel lug
-Early RSB
-Early rear sight ladder
-Possibly early gas tube (hard to tell)
-Stock has a spike bayo groove in it (though it may be a replacement stock.)

Conflicting stuff there. Some early, but the bayo is post '64.

Here's what I'd like to see if you can get us some more photos:
-Import stamp (if any). Might be on the side of the barrel, receiver, or on the receiver cover itself.
-Right side of stock with S/N (if any)
-Front bayo lug, both sides.
-Groove in the Stock Ferrule (metal sleeve at the front end of the stock)
-Bolt carrier, area behind the handle.
-Gas tube, area where the tube transitions in front of the hand guard.
-Gas block.

That should help us get started. There have been other m21 NA guns out there, but not much detail on them.

I was thinking the same. Figured they would hvae started with the 7 on the other parts.

Pretty neat Buckeye!

So, the ferrule is a blade "V" notch, and the stock has a spike bayo cutout.  That certainly points to a replacement stock in my book.

Besides the stock and that blank bolt, everything else on this gun screams early (pre 1964/65) Jianshe build.  It could easily be a VN era gun.

The Labanu import stamp and the mismatch stock/ferrule bayo features (along with not having a bayo) probably puts importation in the post 1988 timeframe - after bayos were made into an evil feature, but before widespread bayo lug removal was commonplace like in the early 90's.

It's interesting that this is one of the first VN era M21 I've seen with an import stamp (I'm sure there have to be others, I just haven't seen them).  All the M21 No guns were VN bringbacks it seems.  The other M21s like your NA could very well have been imported in quantity.

There's good info in your photos.  Thanks for sharing!  thumb1
