Here is your chance to earn the honorary title of (Jackalope Sniper)
You are about to embark upon a great crusade, where jackalopes run rampant devouring everything in their path and YOU must take them out. What better way to test your marksmanship skills than to shoot for small groups at 100 yards with a 22LR !
Test your skills, test your rifle, test your ammunition and perhaps you could work your way up the (Jackalope Sniper) ladder.
To advance the rules are simple.
1: Must be 22LR
2: Must be 100 yards
3: Must have atleast 8 outta 10 in Class 1
4: Must have atleast 6 outta 10 in Class 2
5: Must have atleast 4 outta 10 in Class 3
6: Must provide picture of rifle & target
7: Must post info about your weapon.. ammo, scope, mods etc
8: Breaking the line is "in".
11 shots total...... 10 at the main target, and 1 at the head-shot
(Class 1) Atleast 8 outta 10
Master Gunnery Sgt. = qualify X3
First Sergeant. = qualify X2
Master Sergeant. = qualify X1
(Class 2) Atleast 6 outta 10
Gunnery Sgt. = qualify X3
Staff Sgt. = qualify X2
Sargent. = qualify X1
_
(Class 3) Atleast 4 outta 10
Corporal. = qualify X3
Lance Cpl. = qualify X2
Private. = qualify X1
Shooters that nail the head-shot with a qualifying target will automatically advance to the top of their class. Once you make Corporal or Gunnery Sgt. you have to start shooting in the next class to advance. You can start in class 1, 2, or 3 ..... the choice is yours.
Every shooter that posts a qualifying target is a Jackalope Sniper!
Helpful knowledge:
22lr bullet drop from a 50y zero: 1200 fps = -5.8" , 1100 fps = -6.8" , 1000 fps = -8.3"
100 yard 22lr average windage push: 2" at 5mph , 4" at 10mph etc
Sound barrier varies but usually stays around 1,100 FPS at sea level.
Download the PDF target by clicking on it below... If you have what it takes! Center circle should be 1.5" across, and you may have to select (fit to printable area) in your printing options.

Posting this for my father (SlumberingBear)
Three up... three down. This is how its done! SlumberingBear has won the highest title awarded (Master Gunny) in the challenge with 3 qualifying targets with an amazing 10 outta 10 on all three targets with three dif rifles. He didnt even bother with the head-shot attempt. All targets were shot using Federal Ultra match ammo.

Russian Vostock Ural.... this rifle is an absolute animal. Almost Identical to the newer CM2 like Adam7 has for sale currently in the classified section.

Mr. SlumberingBear makes that look easy. Bet I could get a group like that.....at ten feet with a load of #4 Buckshot.
Danged good shooting SlumberingBear! thumb1

Just a suggestion....maybe change this to 50 yards? I don't think the average person has the optics needed to hit that small of a target at 100 yards. :)

I completed this entire challenge from bottom to top on a dif board using nothing but iron sights. :)
Its not supposed to be easy. Its meant to challenge the shooter to find the ammo that works best in their rimfire, and practice skills that usually pertain to longer ranges with higher powered rifles.
-
Can you elaborate on the proper sizing? I can't get anything smaller than a 2" circle for the body target. That's the overall target, from black outer edge to black outer edge. But compared to the targets your dad shot, my scaling looks the same on an 8x11 piece of paper?
-
Everyones printer will be slightly different, but the avg size should be 2". Your doing pretty good at 2" as mine come out 1.90"
There was a similar challenge on rimfirecentral with a target measuring 1.5"

Ok cool... I got the 1.9" scale on mine.
I usually do the superstock games on rimfirecentral.

For anyone interested with irons or lower powered scopes. I dont care what you use as a poa to get your rounds on target. I used a lid of a can of cachews, painted it black, put white paper behind it for contrast, and shot at ole Jack with the bull placed about 9" below. Kept a 50y zero and let gravity do the work for me. This gives you something to see with the naked eye while still implementing all the necessary practices, skills, ammo, and equipment etc.
-
I'll give this a try this week. I haven't actually shot my target .22 at 100 yards, so it should be fun :)
-
Alright, here's mine from today.
Ruger American Rimfire .22, Norma-tac ammo, 18x power.
8 out of 10 hits. The quarter is just there to show scale for my facebook post, lol.

Did I do something wrong?
-
I must have missed your post PS....
If anyone posts a qualifying target, please pm me to be sure I see it. :)
Power Surge has won the title of Master Sergeant with an excellent 8 outta 10 target!
Great job man..... Two more times just like that, and your at the top. thumb1

I forgot to print out the rules before I headed there. I just remembered it was out of 10 shots. I'll definitely do more targets next time out. I enjoyed shooting 100 yards with the RAR. I can usually muster about .400 groups at 50, so I was pretty happy with my first time out at 100. I think my grouping was decent for non-match ammo.
-
Norma Tac is a new contender on the scene. Its actually proving to be very very accurate and will keep its own against some of the best target ammos available. Its definitely a match grade ammo in my definition.

It's definitely the best ammo per dollar right now. And being made by RWS, it's obviously top quality. Just like anything .22, each gun likes certain ammo. In my guns, the Norma-tac shoots about the same as Wolf MT/SK Plus, just slightly edging it out. I've never tried any super high match stuff like Midas Gold or Tennex.
-
Yup...
Welp.. the higher grade match ammos can be better of course, but as you stated the price is very resolvable for the Tac and made by a reputable match ammo manufacturer.
-
Ok, went back out today to do some jackalope sniping :)
Since I really haven't shot .22 at 100 yards, I wanted to try some different ammo and see how it grouped.
Below is the pic of three ammo types.. norma-tac, Wolf MT, and some CCI-SV.
The scope is zeroed off of the Norma from the last outing. The Wolf grouped almost as well, but not quite. Interestingly the Wolf shot about an inch left of where the Norma landed. And the CCI-SV is on the bottom, with the worst group, but still not horrible for non-match ammo.
So after the ammo test, I obviously stuck with the Norma.
Here's my other two qualifying targets. The one on the left was first. 9 out of 10 center shots, and a flyer for the head shot :-(. The right side target is 8 out of 10. The 10th shot is the one at the very bottom of the paper....they sounded the cease fire siren just as I was pulling the trigger and caught me off guard, lol. The head shot was better on this one. I had to slip a round into the hole to see if it broke the line, and it's just about even with the black edge. No biggie, it still was a good shot.

Outstanding.... I like how you experimented with several ammos to be sure your shooting what your rimfire likes. I would def stick with the Norma in that rifle. You maye find some higher level match ammo brands to shoot better in your rifle, but you simply cant beat the performance at cost with Norma.
You are now at the top rank of Master Gunny in the Jackalope Challenge..... excellent shooting!
I have noticed dif speed ammos will group in dif locations.... not sure exactly what causes this, but most of the time for me it groups low and to the left with slower speeds then high and to the right with faster ammo. Its a lower left to upper right diagonal string depending on speed.
-
Commendable shooting Power!!
Cannon I wonder if that "diagonal string" you speak of would change directions with a left-hander doing the firing? Just thinking about the variables again!

Updated the target picture and moved the downloadable PDF to SKSFiles server.
LETS GET SOME SHOOTERS ON THE BOARD!!
