1978 SKS
« on: March 01, 2023, 03:37:31 PM »
Last fall, Cabela's and several other outlets in Canada offered up for sale 1978 SKS's. Now at the time I did not consider buying one but a friend of mine purchased one and mentioned the condition. So I picked up one. Cabela's had them for $550.00 Cdn. plus tax ($425.00 US). Free shipping is also included(oversize fee may be applied).

Hot Dang, Jstin2.

That's a great looking rifle! I especially love that the mag modification is very well done.

Nice catch. 8)

That’s a beauty  thumb1  8) I think I’ve hit my limit on Type 56s but I’d make room for a nice 23rd or 24th year carbine.

Wow...  That is a great rifle - amazing condition after all these years.

I really like the latter French Ticklers - really nice finish all around.

I watched a video on youtube about the 78 sks (in Canada) and he mentioned the blueing on the cover. It is common on the Russian SKS where the center portion of the cover is slightly lighter. I clicked on my picture and it also shows a lighter blueing in the center of cover.

I checked online and every Cabelas in Canada are selling the 1978 SKS. I talked to one person who said that his local Cabelas was on its third batch and was down to its last 2. Plus there are several retail outlets that are selling them also and some of them are sold out. No idea of how many were imported but they are all advertised as pristine.

They must have found some unopened crates somewhere and decided that more money could be made by exporting to Canada vs holding on to them in PLA stocks in China.  Very glad you guys are getting the chance to acquire them, they are some of the best Type 56 carbines (and indeed all SKS variants) out there in many people's opinions.  thumb1
