This one popped up on gunbroker a while back.  The description & photos left a little to be desired but i decided to take a chance on it.

Here's what i started with.....

This was the entire description:

Chinese SKS 7.62x39 with Scope and Iron Sights.  See through scope mount with iron sights.  Scope is a Leapers 6x32.  No Bayonet.  Has Flash Suppressor.  Bore is bright with strong rifling.  Good Condition.  Black Synthetic stock.

After receiving it from my ffl dealer, i was pretty stoked!

I dumped all of the after-market bits and started digging in my parts bins.

This is what she looks like now!

Excellent restore on that old Ruskie.
My Avatar is a pic of the real "Ghost" SKS in honor of xxxsks(joe). It is a pic of a fully decked out SKS in Capco hunter's kit. This was mine, the only other pic I had ever seen of one was Joe's.

Thank you all!!!

I am happy with how it turned out.

P32--There were only 2 bids on the GB auction.  So I ended up getting it for $404 + tax, shipping, fees, etc.  I didn't think it was too bad for what i ended up with.

Excellent price for a sleeper Russian  thumb1 especially if you had the parts on hand, or they didn’t cost many hundreds. At that price, vs. the final value of your current set up, you had at least a $300-400 buffer to work with.

  • The only way to avoid Mosin #2 is avoid Mosin #1!
I agree, very nice save indeed!

Is that KBI import stamp an RL prefixed S/N?  If so, then you restored it back to the as-imported condition with that laminated stock and handguard.  Was that intentional or is that stock just what you had available?

Heck with what you could recoup from the plastic stock, receiver cover scope mount, and scope you're doing *extremely* well on the price for a '53 light refurb SKS45!  thumb1

RM - yes, it is a KBI import with the RL serial.  When i saw kbi on the receiver, I decided to go with the laminated stock.  I thought that's what they looked like when they were being imported.

P32 - luckily, i had all of the necessary parts on hand.   the magazine was NOS from Russia that i'd gotten on ebay about 10 years ago.  The stock set came out of Canada maybe 5 or 6 years ago.
