My SKS M
« on: July 24, 2022, 04:02:18 PM »
Just like to show a little of my M model...

It was one of my dad's rifles,  but had a sloppy ATI stock on it.  I found a stock on ePay  from the same seller I got a thumbhole Sporter stock from.  Both are pretty nice for a 30 year old piece of wood.

I Bubba'd it  little... I can't see iron sights anymore ... I can see the rear sight with my glasses,  but only see the front sight without my glasses.   :-X

I put the scope on it so I can see the target.

Nothing undoable

Nice.I like the Monte Carlo stock. My "M" trigger is rather long and crappy. I shot mine a couple times and put her away.Boy I understand shooting with glass's and iron sites.

I have the same problem....and trying to explain this to an eye doctor doesn't help.
Bifocals are a hoot....bifocal contacts are even crazier....by the time you can see both sights properly...the target is anything downrange.
I have not bought much ammo as a result....so I have that going for me.

Nice, fairly clean looking rifle.  I like the look with the flash hider.

Thanks guys... I'm kind of proud to put it back to "mostly original ". I'm sure Dad had plans for it. I just hope I got it right.

I can't wait to get to the range and see what it will do.  thumb1

Nice rifle....   Glad you got the chance to put it back to its "original commercial variation".   I like the M stocks much better for shooting than the thumb holio stocks.

It may not be original as far as the stock, but everything else is numbers matching🤷‍♂️

Not to worry. Stocks for those were generally not serialed, and if you have a Sporter in an M stock (which you said you HAVE a marked M IIRC) who's to know but us nit-pickers wink1.

Not sure the muzzle brake will stay on the rifle. I kind of like the short barrel look. I think the long barrel rifles look better with a suppressor.

Nice "M" Rotorranch! My M was my favorite shooter.

Yeah, finding a M stock and putting it back on your M was the way to go. Like Bruce said, the M model stocks weren't serialized, so the stock is returned to it's original configuration other than the upper hand guard. You may still have the correct wood hand guard. They're not hard to locate. Just finding the right shade of finish.

I've been wanting to retrofit my M like Sgt Frank Rock over on Gunboards did many years ago. Since they are Commercial rifles anyway, there's no harm done. I think they look pretty good fitted with the Para bayonet. Sgt Rock used a standard SKS stock with the bayo groove instead of the M Monte Carlo stock so he wouldn't have to cut the bayonet groove. I was able to pick up an extra M stock and the non-neutered bayo lug. I already have the Para-length bayonet, too. Just have to have the stock grooved for the bayonet now. I did that once with a polymer stock and my trusty Dremel tool. ONCE! It came out nice but I just about went cross-eyed before it was done!  ???

Sgt Rock's modified M:

Well, Photobucket is being weird tonight. They've revamped their site, again, and now I can only share the first picture of ANY album. It's a glitch, I know. It's just aggravating. Anyway, I'll share more pics of that retrofit when they get the glitch fixed.
