SKS muzzle brake
« on: January 16, 2020, 07:06:09 PM »
I'm getting a SKS, and how would I go about removing the brake??? Looks like it twists on, and is pinned.

There's no way of knowing without seeing it since it is an aftermarket add on. Most of the ones you see are not attached securely, so it would be a matter of unscrewing the set screw...or you can shoot it and it'll most likely fly off  :))  Alternatively,  if someone threaded the barrel on their SKS and got a threaded muzzle brake to attach to it, then it'll depend on what type of die they used to thread it. It could be right handed thread or left handed (to accommodate AK family brakes).

Knock out that pin.

So the brake just slides on, and is pinned in place???

Yessir.

I found this: https://www.reddit.com/r/SKS/comments/be9e3i/how_to_remove_aftermarket_muzzle_brake/

Once the pin just under the front sight is out, it should slide off.
there may be some carbon fouling to contend with, but it's an easy job.

If you're going to 86 it, I'd be interested. You never know what Bubba might need  ::) PAX

If you're gonna toss it.

Were you able to remove it?

Hell, I'm probably gonna sell the ammo for $150 to recoup my money.

Me too. I certainly understand.
Hard to replace that ammo once it's gone, though.
