Smith-Corona 03A3

This is one rifle, I have in my years of collecting always passed up...I kind of favor the 1917 Enfield. But when I saw this, I made the decision come hell or high water, it's coming home. Made in 1943 according to the serial, the barrel date also matches, Smith-Corona only made them for 2 years, in '43 and '44. It seems to still have all the markings intact, I'm guessing it went through a refurb given the mix of parts and stock repair.

This would be the Smith Corona of typewriter fame, not cigars. Regardless, it's amazing all of the manufacturers that were incorporated into the war effort in WWII that produced items far afield from their normal products, like IBM, Rock-Ola and Standard Products for the M1 Carbine, etc.

Nice gun...the workmanship is fantastic, even the stock repair looks like they wanted it to be like that. 
I love a safety that you can read from the next county too. :)
