Romanian M1969
« on: March 10, 2015, 05:34:14 PM »
More of my Romanian fetish  :)  The red one, I got years ago, when they first hit the market, the Quik-Site rings were toted as a direct fit due to the groove size was non-standard size. They have been on there for about 10yrs, and still tight. I tried a standard ring set on the tan rifle, after much trial and error they ended up in the woods behind my house. :)  The tan one was a get it out of my shop special which I was only so happy to oblige the owner.. Seems now, these things have become hard to find, and have gotten pricey, mags are somewhat expensive, and it seems ones stamped "Made in Taiwan"  don't work as well. Much like an SKS, these also have a butt stock trapdoor with a cleaning kit, the cleaning kit is much like a miniaturized SKS cleaning kit. The rear sight has 3 blades, one for 25, 50 and 100, with the 25 being fixed in place, the other two are selectable, it is also slide adjustable for windage.

I was asked recently about the barrel stamps, UMC-2 and I checked and found I had two different barrel shank stamps, UMC-2 and IMC-2. I haven't checked as of yet if the mark is tied to the year made, or if it was two separate makers, the red stock is a '74 and the tan stock is '77.

Aim sold them a while back in '10-'11, around 120 or so. My one first cost me 90bucks.

Liberty Tree last had them 175 I believe, mid last year, last one I saw sold recently in a private sale was 250.

I'd hazard a guess $175-225 is typical going rate, but slowly rising.

RM, did either of your Romanian M1969's have any damage to the magazine well? My friend bought a couple of these a while back, but both have damage to the mag well. (You can't insert a magazine) And it definitely looks like intentional damage. I don't now if that's how they "demilled" them, or turned them into a single shot? I'm not positive, but my friend may have purchased them as "u-fix-ems", I don't know. I'm going to try to repair them. I thought I'd ask you and see if you or anyone else has heard of that issue before?

RM? :o bat1 You trying to hurt my feeling rofl2  chuckles1

No, In all the ones I seen, the most common thing was broke firing pins, or really crappy mags. One had a bad bore, and I know of one currently with a broke extractor. As far as the intentional mag well damage, thats a new one, being its Romanian and we currently import many weapons manufactured there, like the WASR line, Tokarev pistols and other stuff, I couldn't imagine why this little rifle would need some type of de-mil destruction. But, hey, dumber things have happened. Maybe they are just the last of their type, thrown together for sale, broken, busted, missing stuff, sold as you fix 'ems. Importers way to make money, even off broken stuff, and clean house. Just beware of the Made in Taiwan mags, one might feed perfect, if your lucky, another magazine will cause heartburn and hair pulling.

Oops.  :)  Gotta watch that. I usually check it better than that.

  GM
I'll try to get some pics of the two magazine wells. It's pretty weird damage, the way it was done. I'll show you guys the pics and see if you can suggest a way of repairing them.
