Mine looks just like Greasemonkey's.  Is that /016\ or /416\?

We came to the conclusion that it's a /416\. If you look really closely at GMs photo, you can see the tail of the 4 is definitely there. The connecting line at the bottom of the 4, 1, & 6 is the key here. From the later (and pretty clear 4's) /416\ AKs we've seen, this feature is maintained throughout the series. The tail in these is not always readily apparent, but it's there.  thumb1

Thanks for the info!  I always thought it was 016, partially because I had read that it was only /26\, /016\, and [0141] that produced the Police rifles.  So which arsenals produced them - /26\, /416\, and [0141]?

Yes, but I think it said that the 3 factories were /016\, /26\, and [0141], which can't be correct if Greasemonkey and I have /416\ examples.

Looks like there are [0140] and [0144] examples, too, but I don't see anything about the /416\.

PUBLIC SECURITY /416\, [0140], [0141], [0144], /26\

I have 016 in the serial range area still... Have to change it.

I thought I'd link this quote from member fenceline about the KFS "Letter of Authenticity" confirming it IS /416\, in case this thread is used for research purposes.

My Certificate of Authenticity from Keng's Firearms Specialty Inc has just arrived regarding my 016/416 Arsenal stamped, PS stamped Type 56 SKS.

It says...

"This certificate acknowledges that the Poly Technologies, Inc. SKS with Serial Number 180383## was manufactured by State Arsenal 416 in Jing-AN, China.  It was imported by Keng's Firearms Specialty, Inc. on October 13, 1987 and was sold on December 29, 1987."

So there it is.

And here is the close up of the Arsenal stamp...
