Quick "hello"
« on: March 02, 2019, 01:52:35 PM »
Hello everyone,

Just wanted to say hello and thanks for the bits of info I've gleaned from your forum occasionally over the last few years.

I've been the keeper of a Midwest Ordnance SKS-D for the past couple of decades and, having never fired it and being a bit sentimental, I figure it's about time to get it in the hands of someone who'll appreciate it properly. First firearm I've ever sold and I'll be done with selling after I find a home for this one and an old Glenfield 30A (Marlin 336) that's going to hit the block in the coming weeks.

I don't spend a lot of time on forums, but I understand it can be a bit sticky if somebody shows up to just sell something, so I thought it appropriate to start here and make certain I weren't stepping on any toes or violating the rules. If that's the case, just let me know and that'll be the end of it. I figure I'll wait a day or two before putting it up in the marketplace, just to be sure.

Well, that's about all I've got at the moment. Thanks very much for the opportunity to say hello.

Have a great day!

Howdy from Montana!

I look forward to the sale listing...we don't often get to see MO conversions. Aren't you tempted to fire it to be sure you want to part with it?

Mr Hell, I have thought hard about that and I believe it's in my best interest, mentally, to let it go clean. You are dead right: if I pull that trigger, I'll have five reasons to keep it before the smoke clears.

Greasemonkey, I'll get a photo up as soon as I get the Marlin out. I know where it is, but I also know all the stuff that's between here and where it is, so it might take some effort.

Thanks again, everyone!

Well, I just finished the Chinese SKS Survey. That was really informative! I didn't know the significance of a lot of the features of mine, so that's great to learn.

Here's a quick rundown on what I've got: 1963 Arsenal 26, milled receiver, milled trigger group, long lug barrel, all the numbers match except the stock, but no numbers on the piston or the one-piece gas tube, 20.5" barrel, lightened bolt, etc etc. Basically, everything is early style and milled, where applicable.

I've got a few oddball markings on the receiver that are either too faint to be legible or were mis-struck. Maybe I can get a couple photos up if I have some down time this weekend.

It's interesting to see the innards and the machining involved. These guys were among the first, if not the first to do the AK mag conversions. I assume that the mag release has the MO engraved on the back?

Hey, if it's of value to anyone, I'd be happy to take more high quality photos of specific areas of interest. Try to add to the Midwest Ordnance conversion knowledge base while this one's still in my possession.

I'll take some more up close shots tonight.

Let me know if there's anything specific that would be of value.

Powersurge might like a bunch of nice photos for the guide site. These really don't come up very often.

Alright, I finally got a spare minute in daylight so I shot some photos. Without an unmodified rifle for comparison I'm not confident of the value, so let me know. I'm more than happy to do as deep a dive as you'd like, if I can have some direction.

Also, let me know of this should go somewhere else rather than just continuing to add to my initial post.

Thanks!

Miller receiver. Two from below, two from above, then one from dead below with the bolt still installed.
