Here is a Yugo oddity.. certainly not elm.. definitely not teak..

I read somewhere, they used a type of oak on the Mausers as well.. cause I have an odd one of them too. The hand guard on both the SKS above and the Mauser are elm..

Interesting... you have a light version as well.

Ive asked this question about the stock on another board.  I think I may have found the answer.  I believe these to also be elm.  I have not looked at the end grain yet... and Im not an arborist either but I think the answer is the light colored stocks are elm but they are made of the sap wood from the elm and the others are made of the heart wood.  Thus the color differences and even grain appearance differences.

I do have a lighter M59 stock.. My M59 long barrel is a light variant also, this is the "B" prefix, the dark one above is the "C" prefix.

This is the group shot..

My sexy striped M48B..

This M48BO has the darker stock.
I'm going to make him an offer he can't refuse......

They definitely don't come up for sale very often, I've seen way more East Germans, North Koreans and NVA SKSs being sold, than I do M59 long barrels. A few years ago, a member here had quite a few and put them up for sale. Dans Ammo had a few listed about the same time as I remember. Most of them got snapped up quickly and quietly by a few members here..

Yep I was a bit late on the Dan's Ammo long barrels ...like one day late.  Ive not seen any since.  Cool part of the history of these rifles.
