Funny that they call it a Russian as it's clearly a Chinese type 56. I wish he would have shown the left side in better detail. Same operation and disassembly I guess. This video must have been made in the 60's sometime. Nice fin HN! thumb1

I assumed he was calling it Russian, due to the origins of the original design. That was just my guess.....? Besplode

I’m curious as to what gives it away as Chinese in the video. About the only way I know to tell the two apart without looking at the markings is the blade vs spike bayonet.
Nice video. I once forgot how to get the gas piston out of an SKS after a year without field stripping it, so I pulled up that one to figure it out.
After watching Joe Q. on a couple videos talking like Boomhauer and doing magic things with his hands way too fast on his shaky camcorder for me to keep up with, I just went with the Army instructional and it was the easiest to follow.

Chevy Boy, the stock (side swivel), numbers on stock, dust cover (although could be any old cover), color of stock is light (should be dark for Russian).

Yeah, main give away is the side sling swivel stock

Possibly the mis-identification indicates that the rifle in the video is a late, large font Letter rifle -- sans 56type (五六式) designation and easily mistaken for a Soviet carbine?

Yeah if I had to guess, I’d probably go down that line of reasoning as well Boris. Early enough to be similar enough to a russian to misidentify it but late enough to be a side swivel Chinese. A letter gun fits the bill perfectly.
