Title: "Real" Rimfire AK/AKM options
Post by: Gator Monroe on May 11, 2015, 11:52:44 AM
The tactical rimfire craze has spawned many variations ( GSG5 ) (SIG 522) (H&K MP5 22) (MP 40) (StG 44) (UZI 22) ... and dozens of AR 15 pattern  22 offerings (Along with conversions & uppers for the Centerfire AR platform. And even the Ruger 10 /22 world has its many potential optional hop ups . Then we have the AK 22 camps ( Entry level oldies like the Italian Armi Jager AP74 and its variants and its cousins ,the Newer GSG AK 47 (screw build/split receiver offerings) to look at . But other than the uber rare East German cold war era trainer ( Mpi 69 ) AK folks were left in the cold until the AKT- 98 (first variant of the "Rimfire Romanians" ) was imported in small numbers . Followed by the WASR 22 & RPK 22 a few years afterwards . The "Real" blowback operated .22lr AKM  quickly became a cult gun though numbers imported ( far less than one thousand per model per year over a few years) kept them far below the radar of most firearm enthusiasts. After Importation ceased a last model (M10 22) made it over in even smaller numbers (Most of which had carry over issues from earlier variants ) and thus were parted out and sold as kits until very recently . As "Real" AKM pattern weapons  and their ability to be configured to choice with the Myriad of Milsurp & aftermarket parts

There are far better options for an AK in .22 now.  You are living in the past, there is no longer ANYTHING special about a WASR .22, and really there never was.  There are a zillion cooler, better options on the market now.

The GSG is a POS (Screw build AND split two piece receiver) the idea you would compare that to an AKT-98 or other Romanian Rimfire AKM is hilarious

I have eyed up the Mitchell Jagers a time or two and I wouldn't mind having one to try out but it will probably be a while, they always seem too expensive.

The Mossberg "BLAZE" 47 22 looks to be a loosely based knockoff (Like the Jager) ,its amazing how far from real they can be (Armscor/GSG/Mossberg) and how much fun the "Real" rimfire Romanian AKMs are...
