Ejection port mod?
« on: October 06, 2015, 06:55:18 PM »
Anyone ever heard of this and/or tried it?

It is supposed to alter the trajectory of ejected cases to avoid hitting the scope without a deflector.  I would hate to do this to most of my SKSs, but my bubba project might enjoy stacking the brass in the same vicinity....

Also, I noticed on my DB when I got it a very similar alteration that perhaps the Chinese were working on....sure enough, I recall being surprised by the ease of picking up (finding)  it's brass.

There is a posting 'elsewhere' that shows something similar to this as well, but it was done completely vertical.

I had never heard of doing this before....

A buddy of mine did the 90 degree mod to the port.  His bubba is in a SG Works stock and he didn't like the empties hitting the little flapper door on the SG Works stock.  He said the mod works well.  He also mentioned a youtube video that he saw showing the mod.

I have not seen it in action, so no first hand experience with it...sorry.

Interesting....I don't think the DB was modded, and I assumed it was a time/cost saving measure on the cast receivers...this one doesn't even have a locking lug, it is cast as part of the receiver, and that little hole is likely to insert a feeler gauge for head space.

I doubt it was intentional as I don't see them caring about where the brass flies, I find it neat that it works in the way that it does.  Solving a problem about the SKS that causes me to spend 2/3rds of my shooting time trying to leave only footprints and scuff marks behind my targets. :)
