The E. German stocked Chinese SKS has arrived. It definitely is parked.....it has no intermediate rod and spring....the hand guard is a bakelite/fiberglass jungle version.....and nothing matches....lol. There indeed IS a serial number on the stock.....what I can read is 972. The crack looks fixable no problem.
Here's where it gets weird. I popped the cover off while still at my FFL's and found this.

Huh......that's weird.
So is this.......

I don't even know where to begin on this thing.... rofl

Import marked?
-
That is wild!!! How well does an ak mag fit that magwell?
-
Import marked?
None found....I need to look over the barrel closely again. But....being that it was re-barreled....who knows what has happened. I am betting that with a full magazine, it wouldn't stay in for more than three shots....very negative. It just is a weird...weird bird.

Fit's very well.....just doesn't appear to hold the magazine solid. I can whip it outta there if I grab it firmly enough. 20 rounders and under I'm guessing.
-
Looks like someone tried to copy an MC-5D.
Maybe you can use this receiver for your Chinese AK mag project?
-
Looks to me like bubba messed up a vets gun.
-
Unless of course, the barrel is where the import stamp was.
-
Hot mess!
-
I wouldn't worry about trying to restore it.
In the immortal words of Forest Gump,.... " Oh, Bubba!"
It might be nice for an unconventional project gun.
How does the bore look?
-
What the heck? :o
-
Are there any two S/N on it that do match Pat?
Reminds me quite a bit of my Ugly Betty yugo, well minus the nifty EG stock and bubbafication.
-
It looks like it belonged to a sea captain, who had a little too much time on his hands on a bad run of fishing...but had a welder on board to occupy his time. There is such a consistent pattern of rust, it had to be in sea air one would think.
At least there is no shortage of op rods and springs at the moment.
What are ya gonna do? I am sure that stock will meander over to something more worthy...but this thing is screaming for, help.

As of yet, I have not found any matching serial numbers to each other.....not a one. No importer mark either, but experience says with a swapped barrel, that's not too hard to figure out.....but who knows? I wish it wasn't parkerized....but it is....I'll oil it up and lightly scrub it down. It also has a weird....almost simple green smell to the rifle. I'm going to shoot it today when I get home from work. I'll double check the headspace though first.
The stock will most likely be rehomed at some point...although cool as hell....I'm sure there's an EG out there that's naked. The trigger group mag release is a very interesting design. I've seen quite a few bubba jobs in this department, but not one that looked like this. I'll get some detailed pics of it shortly.
-
That mag release looks like an early Russian type (check your poster :) ) but heavily modified....at least that was what I thought when I saw that pic....theres just too much meat there, right?
-
Dont think so... The early russian has a block going rearward with a hole the spring goes into. This looks like someone added an angled chunk of metal to the front side of the release to make a latch.

Could or would have the parkerizing possibly have covered, or even concealed, say a lightly struck import stamp, if it's done thick enough? If they bead/sand blasted it to get the fresh bare metal prior to parkerizing, the act of blasting it could have distorted/washed off the import mark even further.
I have seen a combination duracoat stuff/bead blast job hide...ok, make it so faint you couldn't make heads or tails out of the import stamp on a Cz82 slide....nope nea1 I walked from that sale.. :-X

I have seen pretty much the same on an East German Makarov for sale that was parkerized. I also scooted myself away from it as well and was not buying it in that condition.

Darn double post! >:(
